Dilation- does there have to be blood?

I know that people talk about "bloody show" and how when you dilate you can spot pretty bad.  Well, I am pretty positive that I have lost my mucus plug but there hasn't been any blood.

I was only 1cm and 50% on Wednesday so they couldn't do the induction this week but we will be doing the induction thing Tuesday if Drake doesn't come on his own before then.  I am wondering if it is possible for there to be progress without the "bloody show."  Also- any at home labor inducers (that aren't sex or castor oil) would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Dilation- does there have to be blood?

  • With my first labour, I didn't lose my mucus plug or had any bloody show until 7cm and by then (of course) was in active labour and in the hospital:)   So. nope, there doesn't have to be blood.

  • I think so, I don't remember spotting of any kind with #1 and I walked around 2-3 cm for a week or two before labor.  Also, never knew my water broke.  Either broke in the shower or bath.
  • I didn't have any show until my water broke - and even then, it wasn't a whole lot until I was in active labor. I had been about a cm dilated for a week or so before that.

Unfortunately, I don't have any suggestions for getting things going... I was 41 weeks, 4 days when I went into labor.

  • I asked my Dr. about the mucus plug and he said most women don't even know they lost it. Maybe this happened with you?

  • I was 2 cm and 80% with no blood at all for the last 36 weeks. Had some light spotting after internal. Was at 3 cm the next week.
  • Natural labor inducers - (or things that might help) walking and nipple stimulation.  Good luck!
