My DD has been sitting with us for stories for about 6 months or so now. When we go to storytime at Barnes and Noble, or another small children's book store near us she has a harder time, even now. I think it's because there are other kids, and with all the stuff around she gets distracted and wants to play.
We sometimes go to that Barnes and Noble to play because they have a Thomas train table and she knows that so she's always wanting to run over there.

Since he was about a year but we read the same books over and over and I animate my voice. We do really simple, short books. He looks at the pictures, he has no idea what I'm saying of course so he's not really following a story. idk, I just want him to get used to books. I also let him turn the pages and that's his favorite part.

LOL-Connor started staying still (at daycare) for storytime around 2. He still refuses at library storytime. There is too much to explore there.
ETA: At home he started sitting in our laps and listening to the whole story around 14 months. If it is just him, he is fine, but if it is a group he would rather socialize.
Re: at what age did they actually stay still during storytime?
