Does your LO take approximately the same amount at every feeding? Or do there seem to be some times where they take more than normal/less than normal?
We generally put about 2 oz in a bottle for DS (he's a preemie, and he's only 5lbs now, in case you're wondering why so little EBM), and he usually takes most of it or all of it. Very rarely he wants a little more, occasionally he takes less.
He just had one ounce and is refusing the rest at his last feeding. Do you think this is cause for concern, or is it something your LO occasionally does, too?
In the NICU, they didn't worry until there were three feedings in a row that were less than they wanted, so I'm not inclined to call the pediatrician over this one feeeding... at least not yet.
One more reason EBF is easier than EP... you don't get to see every mL left in your boobs when the kid is done eating, lol.
What's your experience?
Re: If you bottle feed your LO with EBM...
We giver her one bottle at night. She is 11 pounds and we give about 5oz with 4 teaspoons of rice cereal (for reflux). Some days she will leave an oz and others she will want my breast for a couple minutes after finishing the entire bottle. It just depends.....
I don't pay much attention unless she doesn't want to eat at all. I know I don't eat the exact same amount of food every meal, sometimes I am more or less hungry than the meal before.
Sometimes DS will eat less than normal, but it doesn't worry me. At 2am he ate 4oz for me (sucked the bottle dry) but at 7am only ate 3oz for DH and fell asleep while eating. I figure he's just full and content, no cause for concern.
I'd only be worried if it was something he did for a few feedings in a row and it was significantly less than normal (he just recently increased to 4oz).
