How to get him to eat veggies?

Will will not eat veggies anymore. He loves fruit, eggs, breads, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. But put a piece of broccoli with cheese on it in front of him and he shakes his head no and immediately throws it off his tray. It's really bothering me because I know he's not getting a balanced diet. Sometimes I can hide peas in his yogurt or broccoli in his cottage cheese when I'm giving it to him, but honestly he's not getting much even with that.

So how can I get him to eat veggies? Should I do some creative pureeing ala Deceptively Delicious? I feel like that's just masking the problem, rather than solving it, though. He did great eating veggie purees...definitely didn't like them as much as fruit, but he'd eat them without issue usually. Any ideas for me?

  • I'd try mixing purees in with yogurt, bananas, applesauce, etc.  I'd just make sure to still set out the broccoli and once you eat it and show him how yummy it is, he will eventually want to try it again.  It's pretty frustrating though, Colton has never been good at eating vegetables, hence the greens supplement I now give him daily!

  • ditto Rosie.  Just because he won't eat broccoli this month says nothing about what he'll eat next month.  My kids go on eating binges and strikes all the time...Jakob will eat nothing but cereal for weeks on end, then not want it anymore for 6 months.  Layna will eat an entire can of carrots one day, but then won't look at them again for a week.

  • Austin still doesn't like fruits or veggies. Only broccoli and cauflower, that is it. He is totally a meat eater.

  • DH and I put everything in his yogurt. We call it  a Yogurt Cassarole. He doesnt seem to mind it!
  • Does will like green beans? K loves canned (organic) green beans. She will finish 1/2 of the can at one meal. I also found a recipe fo veggie chicken nuggets that you may be interested in. Email me if you'd like the recipe. Good luck!

  • Thanks for all the advice everyone! For lunch I cooked asparagus and cut up one spear and put it on his tray. He tasted it, made a face, and then didn't touch it for the rest of lunch. So I purreed another spear and mixed it in with his cottage cheese and he ate it up. Stinker! I guess that's how we'll be getting veggies into him for awhile.

MrsRosie - I haven't tried those...I'll look into them when I go grocery shopping this week. Thanks!
