So I randomly decided to "friend" the Under 1k Blogger on Facebook. She actually added me, and now I am so shocked and my heart hurts for those poor kids and her. I'm not posting her pictures here, but there is no way that these two people are fit to be raising kids.
Her house is utterly disgusting. Absolutely filthy, to the point where I am surprised there isn't a cockroach infestation or rodents. The blankets on their bed are stained and dirty and their pillows look like they are caked in an inch of grime.
Her H's teeth are nearly rotted out of his head. I have seen better dental care in rural Appalachia where there is no running water.
He's also lost probably 50lbs in the last year (pictures from Dec. 2008 and then Dec 2009-- quite a few of them are on her blog), clothes are hanging off of him, and he looks malnourished and sickly.
I'm beginning to think this is a case of abuse, and that he's convinced her that she's nothing with out him, or something.
And now her blog says that her poor son is home and not speaking/back to wearing diapers.

The last I read on her blog was that her son was in the hospital.
Terrible.
Something isn't right about that situation, but I don't know what it is. I've always thought something was a little off there...
I agree. I feel like I should screen shot all these pictures and report them to DCS/DCFS/Child services. I was actually sick to my stomach and wouldn't let livestock live in those conditions.

One of my friends actually suggested that she may be mentally ill or retarded.
It makes sense. It is more of a statement than I am comfortable making, but I could see that.
I haven't seen the blog, but from your description I kind of think you should report them too. That is terrifying.
I do not think it is mental illness. She's mentioned in several posts that she went from being a raver/druggie to "finding Jesus" and I think that in some twisted way, she genuinely believes this is how all Christians need to live/she's paying some sort of penance for her past. Coupled with an overbearing zealot for a husband (and perhaps some sort of disability wherein she has difficulties making decisions for herself/is easily coerced by others, like my SIL), this is a recipe for disaster.

I agree. And I believe CPS has been called on her before and they didnt think it was bad enough to be abuse. Honestly, I hope beyond hope that this woman is MUD and just making a buck off of her crazy stories.
I don't think she is the one being abused - this 'living under 1000' is a cause for her - I feel like she has pushed this on the family. just my 2 cents

wow - just wow, no wonder his mouth is closed in the pic on her blog - teeth are something I just don't understand not taking care of if you can (it is one thing to not get expensive braces, but totaly another to not brush/floss/care for your teeth)

Yeah that was my thought on it. If once she starts getting hospital bills and seeing how much it truly costs before insurance, she still thinks they can save and do without health insurance, I will truly question her sanity.
Heck just my annual gyno appt. was nearly 500 dollars before insurance.
I seriously question her mental stability and the choices she is making. From things she has said in the past about her husband, I think he is abusive and self-destructive and she may be "brainwashed" into this or like someone else said, paying for her sins.
I think this is one instance where "I feel sorry for your children and future children" is about the only truth I can say.
I think she has taken "cut off your nose to spite your face" to a astronomical level. When she talks about her childhood growing up in a somewhat well to do (whether that be middle class or higher I'm not sure) environment you can tell that she harbors some type of loathing and hatred for it. And she started off down her erroneously pious path believing that it would "repent" if you will for that.
And now she is so far into her psychosis that she sees it as normal. And not only normal but something to be celebrated.
What she fails to realize is just as she rebelled against her comfortable upbringing, her children are going to have long lasting psychological repercussions (and now even perhaps physical ones if what happened to the kid is in any relation to the insanity she is subjecting them to) as they grow older.
