Hello! I think I'm ready to dive in and join you gals on the board! I'm Shannon, 27 years old, this is my first pregnancy. Soooo, here is my story.
I have PCOS, so it took us awhile to get pregnant...not forever, but 9 months with 6 months seeing an RE & on meds. We finally got pregnant with our 2nd IUI (5th round of clomid). Everything was quite on track, and things have been perfect with baby the whole time. Its a Boy by the way! Then, at my BIG u/s at 19w2d, they saw that my cervix was open a small bit at the top/starting to funnel. So my RE/OB checked me again at 20w and it looked the same, then checked me again at 21w and it was much worse, much further opened/funneled. So that day at 21w0d I was admitted to the hospital. My Dr wanted to do a cerclage that day, but he spoke to the high risk Ob and he wanted me to be monitored on hospital bedrest first to make sure there were no contractions... anyway, monitoring turned into meds (indocin) and after 2 days there, they checked me again just before they planned to schedule the cerclage and they said my cervix looked a little better, so they did not want to do the cerclage (the high risk OB does not normally do any cerclages after 20w) and were going to send me home to stay on bedrest with weekly u/s to check my cervix. So I had my checkup on tuesday (22w0d) and my cervix looked a little worse/further open. THey sent me home and I'm still on the indocin and prometrium and baby aspirin with home bed rest. I'm really hoping we avoid PTL as long as possible. My Dr noted that if we make it to 23w5d, he will re-admit me to the hospital and give me steroid injections...I would remain there until baby comes and the nicu would be right there to take care of him.
Soooooo...Today I am 22w2d and feel totally normal - other then quite worried and being extra achy from laying around all day and night. I've really felt very 'normal' this whole time, so it feels weird too be in such a not-so-great position right now, while feeling ok physically. Just very worried for my little man and hoping we at least make it to 24 weeks.
Any of your thoughts or experiences would be helpful! I'm guessing there might be others in my same situation though I hate that anyone else has to go through this...I think this is going to be the most difficult thing I've ever been through. sorry if I got to rambling!!
Re: IC/PTL/bed rest newbie intro (22w2d today)
I was put on bedrest about the same time as you. I got my steroid shots at 23w6d and 24w (24 hours apart) like you will. For me, being on home bedrest has made my very short cervix stable, which is great.
I know when I was put on bedrest at 22w1d I was a panicked mess. I also felt fine and it is so hard to feel like you can be up and about but know you shouldn't. I worried so much until 24 works, sleep was so hard to get. You can take Tylenol PM or Benadryl if you need to.
Anyway, I can empathize with the mix of emotions you're having. But it is now 5 weeks later for me and my babies are still hanging out in my uterus where they belong, so you can do it, too! For every week that passes, your anxiety will lessen.
Just tell your boy to stay in there! You want to meet him, but no time soon. And we are always here for support, bedrest can be emotionally challenging for a number of reasons. Best of luck to you and your bun in the oven!
Hi there! Hang in there, bedrest is THEE best although it is difficult. I've had a shortened cervix throughout and bedrest and following the doctor's orders has helped so much. I remember when my doctor told me "We just want to make it to 30 weeks" Here I am at a few days shy of full term! A friend of mine had really short cervix early on and bedrest got her to 37 weeks!!
The steroid injections sting a bit. If you get them make sure you rub it out - it helps with the pain.
Hi there! I'm in the same boat too. I was diagnosed with a short cervix at my 20 week u/s which was last Friday. I'm on Bed Rest until the baby comes. I will also be getting the steroid injections.
I know it's tough- my emotions have really run the gamut over the past week, but I know I can do it. I am very determined to keep this baby cooking until at least 28 weeks.
Welcome and GL and keep us updated!
I had the exact same issues as you....started to shorten and funnel at 20 weeks, was placed on bedrest and meds and ended up having my son at 37 weeks. It was on of the hardest things to do but so worth it.
Good luck!
