Nanny share?

Does anyone do this?  Does it work well for you?

  • We do and it works great!

We share a nanny with our neighbor who has a daughter 3 weeks younger than Tyson.  We do one week at her house, one week at our house and so on.  We split the weekly rate for the nanny down the middle.  I like that our babies get interaction with one another, more one-on-one time with the nanny and they're not exposed to as much stuff as they would be if they were in daycare.

The downside is that we have no childcare when our nanny is sick or needs vacation (which has happened a few times).  Luckily, I work part-time anyway, so I can usually flex my days in the office or work from home if necessary.

If you have any other questions, just let me know.  :)

  • It's something I would think about doing if I ever go back to work.  My DD is so used to getting one on one attention now that I don't know how a traditional daycare set-up would work for us.  We usually do playdates for social interaction.

Are you not having any luck with a sitter/daycare?

  • We had a nanny up until this week (my mom is watching Andrew now) and we love the arrangement for the reasons mentioned.

We were thinking about nanny sharing starting in the summer (for reasons mentioned - another kid to play with, share the cost) but I'm not sure if we will depending on what the doctors recommend for Andrew and if my mom is nannying next year then we won't.

Still just kind of looking.  I'm not sure I want to do another in-home and we've been kicking around the idea of a nanny share.
