3rd Trimester

Dear people who ignore the registry...

While we appreciate the thought of a gift for our L.O's we DID take the time to make a registry for a reason.

We did not spend hours walking the aisles with cranky husbands who had to lift and fold heavy strollers while we carried a little scanner gun for no reason! (Or in my case, rolled around the store in a wheelchair with a broken foot at 5 months pregnant.)

We do not find it fun to waddle around said stores again months later returning your unwanted, incorrectly sized items when we can be at home with our cankles resting comfortably.

That tacky brass chiming clock does NOT match the decor of my child room, but if you had looked at the registry, you would have known that!!

That short sleeved onesie was really cute, but did it occur to the registry ignorer that my child will be born during a cold month? And that bikini that I opened up in a size 0-3 will fit her perfectly in April!! FYI..April in NY is not warm!

Why do we even bother to put those little cards in invitations telling people where Mommy is registered if they plan to go WAY outside the box and buy what they want? It's an unsolved mystery.....

  • You put the little cards in the invitation as a suggestion on what you would like for them to buy you, but knowing that they don't have to get you anything.

  • hahaha!!! SO TRUE!!!
  • Yes

I can't stand that! Especially from other mom's who know how important it is to you to get things from the registry you created.

  • I have eleventy-thousand baby blankets and no gift receipts. They are all from walmart so I am sol.
  • Amen, sister.  I reprimand my own mom for going off of registries for family members!  Buy them what they want/need, not what you think is cute/needed.  Also, my mom insists on buying a stuffed animal or soft rattle to tie to the gift...I keep telling her that they're a big waste of money, they gather dust and the baby could care less.  Funny but true post...

  • i'm not that uptight about people that purchase off of the registry. ITS A GIFT. i just wish some (like you posted) would use common sense and think about how big the baby will be & what month the baby will be in the clothes so as to not buy them a snowsuit that they'll fit in summer.
  • Yes  My first shower is this Saturday and we're expecting about 40 people.  So far only one item has been purchased from my registry. I'm very scared to see what the others have gotten...
  • It is for that exact reason that I'd mentioned to my fiance's mom (the person who is gonig to host my Baby Shower) that we are registered at Target and Walmart. After mentioning it a few times she told me she wont be putting it on the invitation and wont be saying anything about it unless she's specifically asked where/if we're registered. Something tells me I'll be doing lots of returns after the baby shower...which is being held exactly two weeks before my due date.
  • Yes

I understand why people don't necessarily go off the registry.

I find it funny when my friends got married after me (and they bought random stuff as my wedding or shower gift) and they were explaining to me how annoying it was that they received things not on their registries.

I think some people may not realize the thought and process of it.  Especially for baby registries.  :)

Can I trade you one of my 48 onesies for some blankets?? LOL

  • I got tons of things I had to return but it just gave me money or store credit to get my bigger items. I understand what your saying but all in all this comes across a tad ungrateful. You make a registry as a suggestion of things you would like but you can't be annoyed when you don't get everything on it. Be thankful you have people who care enough and are generous enough to buy your LO things.

Yes  I agree.  Very few things got purchased from my registry, but I didn't mind too much because it was all useful.

  • LOL I got a buncg of 12 month summer outfits at our shower...let's see. I'm due in Feb. So 12 months later would be...feb. I know that sizes and age don't always match up exactly, but I don't see her ever getting to wear those. The worst part? They were from another pregnant woman due less than a month before me...can you say clearance rack? lol

But on the flip side, I ended up liking the bath tub NOT on our registy, better than the one we picked!

  • I'm actually on an island here, I'm sure, but I need for more people to go off the registry and get us those clothes everybody's been assuring us we'll be bombarded by.

    Stick out tongue

My guests have been awesome registry purchasers, to the point where I had a girl approach me concerned because my Target registry was basically completely purchased.

  • Thank you!

It is not so much ignoring the registry part, but the no common sense part. I got 10 sleevless Newborn outfits. They are a specialty brand from baby boutiques. Not like I can return it without a reciept. Or, the blue outfit and is obviously for a little girl, complete with sparkly silver shoes. So, pack them away and hope baby #2 will be a girl born in the summer!

  • I haven't had my shower yet, so I'm not really complaining from personal experience here, but I agree with the OP.

For those who think everyone should shut up and be grateful for any gift, let me offer the following perspective switcharoo:

I would never be so rude as to go to a wedding, bridal shower, or baby shower where I know the person has a registry, and just decide to blow it off and get them something that I feel like getting them.  The only time I'd have an excuse for ignoring a registry is if I didn't know there was one.

Dude, walmart will take ANYTHING back.  No receipt needed.

  • ugh....it really is so friggin annoying. People are so dumb. Its like they have NO IDEA how inconvenient they make it now that we have to do those returns of their unwanted items. I really wish they'd buy nothing at all. A card would suffice.

My baby is a January baby; someone bought him a 6 month old snowsuit....that will fit him in July. Another moron bought something that was on our registry, but purchased it elsewhere (I assume because it was cheaper.) Then, when someone bought that same item off of our registry, we got stuck with 2. People are morons.

  • I have been wondering if this is going to happen with my showers. I am having 2 that I know of. I am pretty sure that this is exactly what will happen with my MIL's shower. So far she herself has bought nothing of use or purpose for the baby. A stuffed animal and a step stool decorated with safari animals (not my theme). I do think that the shower my friends are having for me will be be great. I know "be thankful for what you get" but if you can't use it? I

I returned $120 worth of stuff to Walmart on Monday with NO receipt.  Give it a try, I have had much success returning there with no receipt.

why are you SOL?  Walmart has one of the best return policies ever... just take some in, tell them you got them as gifts and already have them or don't need them and they'll take them back and give you at least store credit.  I've never had a problem returning at walmart. Now if you got several duplicates or really eleventy-thousand, then you might spread the wealth across a couple of walmarts, but still, it should be doable.  If it was Target, however, well, good luck with that.

Wal-Mart took all of our gifts back without receipts! They won't give you cash back but they give you a gift card...It's made a GREAT diaper fund! Smile

  • Ah, don't forget the presents that are so old the store that it came from (per the label) won't take it because it's past the 5 year mark.  Gotta love the regifted gifts.

  • Yes I found this so funny I read it twice!
  • This is precisily why I didn't waste my time with a large registry.  My family does not get registries.  For my bridal shower, out of 25 guests 6 gifts came from my registry.  And those 6 people were my friends.  I learned my lesson, this time I have one registry and it has 20 items on it.
  • I am thankful for gifts but it really is a waste of money (for the gift-giver) to buy my baby a summer outfit for newborns when LO will be born in February. My MIL gave me two outfits for the baby that are totally useless to me. They are the cutest outfits but they are summer clothes made from material so thin you can basically see through them. They are newborn sizes and purchased in Puerto Rico, so returning them is impossible. As much as I love the outfits, what in the world am I going to do with them??

You don't have to buy from my registry, but at least have some common sense.

that is most likely due to issues with people trying to return WIC formula for money.

Why don't you just return one?  You got what you wanted (it was on your registry), why do you care if they shopped around and got it cheaper?  And if the duplicate was off of your registry then returning it shouldn't be too difficult.  I don't think it warrants the "moron" designation.  If anything, you deserve it.  You're a moron for not appreciating the gifts people gave you.  Annoying?  Maybe.  Inconvenience?  Sure.  But this comes across as being an entitled, spoiled brat.

  • Jesus. A GIFT IS A GIFT!

The reason you register is to help out the gift giver....to give them ideas if they so CHOSE to be helped.
