My doc told us to try rice cereal at our 4 month appt. I was planning on not starting solids until closer to 6 months. I waited 2 more weeks after the doc gave us the OK and it is day 4 of rice cereal and I just don't think dd is ready. She isn't paying any attention to the spoon, she doesn't open her mouth for the cereal, she is constantly shoving her fingers in her mouth and sucking on them while I'm trying to feed her. All she wants to do after the cereal is BF.
I'm stopping the cereal because my gut was right, she is not ready. This is my fear though; she is SO attached to the boob and she would BF 24 hours a day if I let her so my fear is that she may NEVER want to start solids and if I wait until 6 months she will protest even more.
Re: Anyone start solids and realize DC was NOT ready?
We began with rice cereal about a week after her four month appt (she was actually about 4 1/2 months at that point). She hated it, so we would occasionaly try again and again. She hated it to the point that she would take her hand and swipe the food out of her mouth.
So I stopped trying until this weekend when we tried some butternut squash. She ate a bit of it and has definitely become more interested in food - opening her mouth and turning her head when she was finished. I'm still not pushing anything until 6 months - just occasionally giving her some food to see if she's interested.

yourITA. We're still trying b/c he does seem interested, but it's been a week and he doesn't get excited about it. I will probably give it a few more days and if he doesn't seem any more excited we may hold off for a couple of weeks. He eats it, just isn't too thrilled.
Keep BFing if that's what she wants! 6 months is the recommended age anyway, and you can stay exclusive BF up to a year. They don't need solids this early...
This exactly. Solids are more for the experience right now than for any nutrition. How many adults do you know who only drink BM?
She'll eventually want to eat, I wouldn't worry about it.
