I was shocked when family came up from Kentucky and they had never tried Toasted Ravioli, Gooey Butter Cake and they had never heard of Pork Steaks.

They are all "St. Louis" things.

So it got me wondering what foods are native to your town?

ummmmm, T-ravs are the best ever. I hate pork steaks but I could totally go for a gooey butter cake. There is a bakery that specializes in Gooey butter cakes and they make all kinds of special varieties. They are amazing!

Being a Pennsylvanian living in Florida was hard.

There was no ring bologna or Lebanon bologna. You couldn't find a Tastykake to save your soul. No one knew what a hoagie was. Cheesesteaks are not the same AT ALL. You cannot get a decent Italian ice. People don't grill stickies. People think chipped ham is just regular ham that you slice real thin. There are no Middleswarth potato chips.

And did you know that Doritos taste different in different parts of the country?

Yes, Gooey Louie! We had them at Taste of St. Louis!! They were so good. DH's birthday was last week and he wanted a Gooey Butter Cake. It was delicious! I love tasted ravs. I could eat them ALL the time.

most things native to our town- Miami- are a mixture of other cultures. Cuban, latin American, Haitian, etc... You can find Alligator jerky in places, as well as alligator tail, too! But a lot of things you can get here, you can find in other places (like Churros, fritas, sugarcane juice). One thing that i haven't seen anywhere else, though, is our sodas!! Jupina (Pineapple soda,) Ironbeer, Materva (a mate soda) are all sodas I've never seen outside of Miami.

Mmmmm Ring Bologna. I haven't had that in forever.

I can think of tasycakes and cheesesteaks and HOAGIES (yes, I said Hoagies and not subs) are just not the same. Also, soft pretzels.

Mmmms, tastycakes and Philly cheesesteaks! I also missed these desperately when I lived in Florida. Now I am just a short train ride away from PA food fixes. Where in FL were you, Lori? I was near Ft. Lauderdale.

It's not a food that's only available here but the term for it is definitely regional. We call hoagies, subs, etc "wedges." I was born and raised in this county so when I ventured north to go to college most people looked at me like I had ten heads when I referred to them as such.

I live in NJ not too far from PA, but grew up in Lebanon and could not find Sweet Lebanon Bologna, one store near me sells and and I LOVE IT!!! and drakes and little debbies don't cut it, it has to be a tasty cake.

This! I had tastycakes ALL THE TIME from my Publix in Florida.

However, finding one in NY would be impossible.

I miss Cheerwine from NC and Diet Caffeine Free Mountain Dew from there too. Waffle House from FL.

Here (upstate NY) they have Spedies, something I never heard of before, a chicken sauce thing that isn't very good.

I used to drink Big Red all the time when I was a kid, but I haven't seen it in ages. I'm from central IL.
