3rd Trimester

Did Your Water Break?

I just read that over 80% of pregnant women don't break their water on their own as a sign of early labor. Either the doctor has to break it or it happens once they are fully in labor.

So, I am wondering how many of you whom have had children had their water break before labor actually started? (Sorry if that was confusing, I have preggo brain and can't word things properly...lol)

Re: Did Your Water Break?

  • With my first I woke up stepped out of bed and my waterbroke before I was actually in labor! But i was 39 weeks and 5 days!

  • Mine broke.

ETA: Mine broke in the middle of the night before any contractions started (other than a few random BH)

  • My sister has 3 kids and out of the 3, her water broke with 2 of them before she knew she was in labor.
  • With dd my water broke at 3am, contractions started around 7am. We went to the hospital around 8:30, but my contractions werent even that bad by then. They didnt get to the omg I cant move or talk through this contraction until around 10am.
  • With my first the Dr broke it. With my 2nd, my water trickled... then the dr fully broke it when I went to the hospital at 6cm.
  • Mine did... At 11:24 pm when I was simply watching TV in my recliner. Just when I was planning on calling it a night, because I was due to work in the am. My daughter was born 11 days before her due date.

  • Mine did not break until I was in labor already, 40 weeks.

Of my sister's 3 kids her water only broke once and that was the labor that she ended up needing to be induced for!

  • Mine was broken for me with DS once I was admitted.
  • Obviously most of us won't know, being first time mom's...Although there are a few mommies here. I'd ask the 0-3 board...

But, most of the mom's I do know did not have their water break.  I was wondering the same thing, sorta freaking out that my water would break on my new sofa or in bed or something. The one's who did have water break, was more of a slow leak. In class I learned that if/when water breaks most of the time it's after baby has dropped, so it's only the water from the top of his head down. (If that makes since.....) It's not like the movies where it gushes everywhere.

...although I'm breech right now, and if water broke, I don't see his lil toe blocking the flow!

  • mine broke @ home both times.

  • My water breaking was my first sign of labor...

  • You should do a clicky poll on 0-3.  That's the only way to get an accurate idea.  Be sure to put "Clicky" in the subject line and a lot more people will open it.

Mine broke at 38 weeks with DS.  It actually broke during sex and it was a trickle.  I went in and got tested because I wasn't sure if that was actually it.  (It was.)

  • mine was broken for me by the doctor. I had to be induced though, so I didnt start labor on my own.
  • I was reading that it's only 10 to 15% of women.
  • Nope. Dr broke mine at 6 1/2 cm at the hospital
  • I just had my third baby and my water broke with all three.  I had a huge gush with all of them and completely soaked my pants but thank God I was at home for all of them.
  • My water broke w/ my first at 40 weeks and 1 day.  I sent an e-mail saying "This baby is never coming" to my girlfriend who was pregnant and waiting too.  I clicked "Send" and felt pop - I ran to the bathroom and stood in the tub then sat on the toilet - water  works for sure!

Oh and I didn't start having contractions until later - though when they hooked me up 2 hours later they said I was in labor and didn't need the cervadil.

  • My water broke on its own thirty-some-odd hours into labor.
  • My water broke with DS but I didn't start having a regular contraction pattern until I got pitocin at the hospital.
  • Mine broke, but no contractions followed. They ended up starting pitocin.
  • I had my first noticeable contrax at 8am and my water broke at 8:30. DD was born at 1:55pm that day.
  • Mine broke after about 5 min of mild contractions at almost 38 weeks...felt and heard the pop - pretty crazy!:)
