Heath and Heather

My DH tells me yesterday that he likes Heath for a boy.  I like it, but thought people would think it's too close to naming a boy with my name, Heather.  Thoughts?

Re: Heath and Heather

  • I like the name and I probably wouldn't notice that it was similar to your name. I wouldn't name siblings Heath and Heather but I think mom and son is ok :)

  • I agree with the post above me. Plus with Heather being a short vowel name and Heath being a long vowel name I think there is enough of a difference.

  • I adore this name, and it was actually on the top of my list with DS2 until Heath Ledger died while I was pg. I didn't like the association (drugs, etc) at the time, but I don't think most people would think about that at this point in time. Still love it, but DH wasn't on board with it this time.

As for it being close to your name, some people will point it out to you IRL but most (in his life) will never notice. DS2 is Casey and my name is Tracy, and I sometimes feel silly when it's just the two of us and I'm making introductions. But I think it bothers me more than anyone else. And like someone else said, I don't think a mother and child having similar names is as strange/noticeable as sibs.

    I say  "go for it!"

  • I wouldn't make the connection, but is there some problem with naming your child after you? DH's name is Oliver and we will name our daughter (should we be blessed with one) Olivia. I don't think naming a child after a parent is weird.

  • I like Heath and children are named after dad's all the time, and that's acceptable, so why would it not be okay to have him named after you, if that's what people assume?
  • I love Heath! I would still use it as long as it doesn't bother you that it's similar to your name. Plus, Heath is obviously pronouned different than the beginning of Heather, and the names are very different styles.
  • Way too close
  • I am a Heather too and I only recently made the connection that Heath is the male form of our name. (duh!)  I love the idea of having a son named for me!  I see no difference in this than my dad Michael naming his other daughter Michelle.

DH is not a fan, but I am keeping it on a mn list! Wink

  • It's cute and I think that it's actually kind of nice that people might think that he is named after you.
