Somebody on GP asked why the penguins....

I didn't read the whole thing, but Snarky has pandas, IF has penguins, so shouldn't GP have their own board mascot?

First of all "panda girl" I don't recall her screen name was just trying to prevent GP from adding siggies if they are not "part of the IF board" I understand that. However, I really don't think she approached it in a way that everyone understood what she was trying to do.

The post was on the GP board. Not the IF board. It certainly looked to me like GP wanted in on ya'lls penguins.

Yes, they should. If they want one. In this case, it was IFers who were on GP at the moment that were grabbing penguins. The GPers pretty much stayed out of it til the panda invasion.

Some of the ladies who started on GP, have recently moved over to IF. They were the ones with penguins in there siggy. I think that's where it started to go downhill, when JenniferL said those girls were copying.

No one ran over anywhere. The IFers you saw at the beginning of the post, also post on GP. Actually I post more on GP than I do IF. So instead of stating "Hey [insert sn] you have a PM or another post on IF to discuss the penguin thing. Why not just post in the post? We knew each other were IFers.

I think so. I just have never seen so many come to IF at once, that's all. Maybe it's because it was the end of the year/beginning of a new year and that is when people started TTC, and their year is now up. It seems like there are several new intros a day now!

The first few girls who responded about getting the penguins in their siggy are the girls who have moved over here. The next post was yours where you "put the facts" out there about penguins. Honestly, it was a bit of negative post. You basically crapped on people for choosing the penguin as a mascot, lucky charm, whatever. Because it wasn't exactly accurate to what we interpreted it meaning to be.

That is where the shitstorm started.

I think most people who responded after that were defending either the choice to have a the penguin or on the copying part.

Honestly all animals are just that animals. I also put a different spin on what JenniferL said. When it came to penguins "stealing" abandoned babies..I see other roads in the IF travels (adoption etc). There is a different spin on the negatives that she pointed out!

The fact that we picked a unifying animal is no different then her board choosing the pandas..I have been to zoo's where pandas weren't so cuddley..(I have seen them throwing feces etc)..but they are animals and it means something to her board. That is all that matters.

What I am trying to say is they are mascots and animals..not our identity. It is a unifying badge for the ones going through terrible life events and painful experiences together.

I am happy they have the pandas and we have penguins and biitches bathing in bitter which I would love to have the code for b/c Iwant that in my siggy

Damn I got sucked in. I don't know about other girls but my problem with your post wasn't the comment about GPers copying Penguins it was your little factoids about Penguins and how they aren't a great mascot. I would be happy to quote what you said if need be. Especially when someone then quoted a wikki page listing some of the not so great parenting skills panda's have and you responded with this:

"It actually had nothing to do with the baby pandas at all, it was purely from their difficulties getting pregnant. I wasn't even looking ahead to the resulting baby panda. Baby steps is what I was working with. If I couldn't even get pregnant, why would I start worrying about the baby?"

Um half the stuff you said about penguins were about what bad parents they were to their baby chicks. Hypocritical much? None of us can get PG either so why would we worry about the baby penguin chick?

No you all argue about the baby chick as the reason you picked penguins....at least in all the posts I see and when its asked....you refer to March of the Penguins. Someone over here has previously told me that penguins are awesome because the male has such a factor in child rearing.

I'm saying yeah, I hadn't gotten there to even consider that yet.

And PS - I didn't pick the panda as our mascot, the panda just happened. We didn't have some debate or even post about it in a thread. It could have been a rattlesnake....but it worked.
