Babies: 3 - 6 Months

If you live near the grandparents....

how often do you and LO see them?

For us, my IL's see little guy 4 days a week because MIL watches him. My family on the other hand doesn't as often but still does once or twice a month. I'm having a hard time with my mom because she calls or texts daily and wants to see him all the time. I try to explain that after working, making dinner and cleaning up we only get a short amount of our "family time" before it's time for bedtime routine. I feel bad because I seriously have been avoiding the calls and cringe when my phone rings because I know it's her calling to ask about "her little guy." Hopefully the whole it's my first grandkid phase wears off soon or my brother has a kid soon LOL.

Re: If you live near the grandparents....

  • The ILs (mainly FIL) is our daycare.  They see him most days of the week but I work at a school so I keep them home when I am not working and during the summer.  DH works odd hours so sometimes he will keep the kids home too.

My parents see them about every other week.

  • First grandkid for my parents and we see them once a week, maybe. I actually wish it was more.

  • My family lives really close - so maybe once a week (as a side note, I hang out with my siblings a lot).  My SIL is the only nearby (sort of) family member on the IL side and she harasses DH about seeing him all the time...but then dips on plans and doesn't really care what is good for us.  Luckily I don't have to hear it - just DH.
  • We live like 5 minutes from my parents and they see prob. 4-5days a week since my mom watches him while I'm in school and do my internhsip. My IL's don't live in the same state so they really hardly ever get to see DS. But I can say that if they did live near us then they prob. wouldn't see him but for on the weekends since both of DH's parents work.
  • My mom lives 3 hours away and still calls to ask about Miles at least once a day.  I finally started a blog so she can keep up with it.  Then, when she calls, I can just tell her that she's probably already read about everything interesting Miles has done.  I just write a brief update everyday during his nap, and that seems to do the trick.

FWIW, my mom calls Miles "her boy" too, and it really gets to me.  No, Mom, he's MY boy. Ugh. :)

  • We go to church with my parents so they see him at least once a week - usually more often since they only live 10 minutes away and we're around the corner from my mother's favorite grocery store.  DH's parents probably see him every other week - she's weird about stopping by and I always feel like I'm imposing if I stop by over there.  So they see him when they make time to come by.
  • We live less then 10 minutes from ALL grandparents including great grandparents.  So we see everyone at least once a week if not more.  MIL watches him once a week.  My grandma watches him once and week.  Then on the weekends we usually see my parents either for dinner or at the gym.  I also have 2 little brothers who have sporting events every weekend and we go see them play a lot so I guess we are used to always having the family time.

It was something I was totally used to, since I grew up in a HUGE italian family.  But DH does have a hard time with it, but he lets me drag him along.

  • Both grandparents are in town... DS sees my parents 1-2 week because I am close to my mom and sister and like to hang out with them... Inlaws 1-2 a month which is honestly too much for me but I figure is good for family relations.

  • Oh and maybe you could set a weekly date with your mom- Thursday night she comes and helps you with LO and dinner (and she will leave by XX time so you can put LO to bed or Sat morning you get coffee together this way she does not have to call you all the time because she knows she will get to see LO?

  • My parents 1-2 times a week (they live 5 miles away). MIL usually once a week. If we skip church she might go 2 weeks, but that's rare. FIL is more like once a month.
Um, yeah. The Bump be too crazy for pics of my kid.
  • At least once a week, but more like 2-3 times a week usually.
  • All the grandparents, aunts/uncles and us live within 10 minutes of each other.

    - We see DH's parents about once a week at church. (Though MIL would like it to be way more, but I am just not comfortable with her without DH, so once a week at church is all I can handle)

    - My sister comes over anywhere from 1-4 times a week (depends on her school/work schedule).

    - My mom/brother see DD maybe 1-3 times a week (I love hanging out with my mom)

    - We see my dad maybe once every two weeks. (we're not that close)

  • My parents see him every weekday for now because they are daycare.

FIL usually comes down once a month.

MIL has been over twice since he was born (& I'm fine with that).

  • MIL watches him while I am at work, so she sees him on most days

my mom lives about 50 min. away, and she comes over usually on Sundays and Wednesdays

my dad only visits once every other week or so (but I don't think the first grandchild bug hits them as hard as it hits grandmothers)

  • My dad, who 5 minutes from us, see DS several times a week. My mom, who works full time, is super busy and lives 30 min away, sees him a few times a month. She's looking to retire relatively soon so she can spend more time with us.

DH's family live in Europe so have, so far, only spent a week with DS.

  • Once a week or so. They live about 30 minutes away.
  • My ILs live about 30 minutes from us. They spend the winter in FL, but when they're in town we see them twice a week.

They babysit one night and then we go over there for dinner on Sunday nights.

I wish my parents lived closer :( They're across country. If my mom lived here, I'd probably see her a few times a week. She's amazing with the girls and we're close.. plus since I'm a SAHM, it would be great to just head over to their house in the afternoons, or go swimming, or to the park... I miss my mom :(

  •   The grandmas are our daycare.  My mom watches her on Mondays, my MIL on Tues., and DH's stepmother (married to his dad for 20 years), watches her Wednesdays.  I work from home on Thursdays and am off on Fridays.  As much as I hate winter, we keep living in Chicago since both of our families are here.  I don't know what I would do with out my mom and both of my MILs.  We see the grandpas a lot too.
