Hi gals! Thanks so much for your replies to my question about creating a parent profile book. I ended up staying up all night last Saturday to work on our book and I am really pleased with how it turned out. Just waiting for my hubby and pastor to write their little blurbs and then we will be off and running. So this leads me to my next question....now what?
We are pursuing adoption independently, without an agency, so any advice on where t go from here would be appreciated. We need to raise about $12,000 by the time we finalize everything and we've still yet to do our home-study (working on setting that up this week) so until then, what to you suggest? I would like to start networking but my husband wants to wait until we've collected more funding...what do you think? My thoughts are that we've got time because chances are that we won't be matched for some time...but then again, some of you were matched super quick! We are trusting God for the funding so I'm not too worried but DH is the money-man and he's a little concerned that we will get matched quickly and be down a river without a paddle....or padded bank account.
Help? What would you do? Thanks!!!
Re: Profile Book, check! Now what?
I would go ahead and set up an online website to send out to family and friends. We didn't do anything too special for ours -- we used a site called jimdo and it's free. I put the link on my myspace, facebook, and it's attached to all of my outgoing emails as well.
I went to the academy of adoption attorney's site and started emailing attorney's on there about how they work their practice. We are really looking for those who will show us for free -- and right now we are active with 2 and I just got 2 more emails today about attorney's who will show us for free.
I also wrote a letter and sent it off to different OB's throughout our state.
As for funding, we're just putting back all we can each month. We don't plan on taking out a loan -- I sound more like your hubby though lol. I am a big planner on money stuff and my hubby is more laid back about it. I know the good Lord will take care of us if something does happen quickly, but I still try to plan ahead ; ) and it stresses me out alot lol.
I also joined a few social network sites where situations are posted. Most situations are ones that are pretty pricey and there are quite a few scammers but I weed through them. I post on abc social network, hey bobo, and cafemom.
Anyways -- the attorney's we've talked too pretty much wanted us to already be home study approved but since you all are getting that in gear you should be fine.
Hopefully some more girls will give some more ideas -- but this is what we have done so far!! GL
Thanks girls!
CarFar: Yep, you're on the right track...that's why we are getting the ball rolling with our home study. It's just a matter of scheduling at this point so in the meantime, we will probably start with a few emails and see how that goes.
Thanks! My husband is actually a computer tech so he built a website for our wedding...now we just need to make the switch so that it is an adoption site. Thanks for the input! It helped a lot! We have decided to go with an adoption attorney in Northern CA but I didn't think about asking other attorneys to profile us for free...great idea! How did you approach them? I'm wondering if they would take a phone call more seriously than an email.
Thanks!!
We actually have had quite a good response with email. I'm better with my wording on email lol.
I just explained we were a couple living in ______ who was home study approved and looking to adopt. At this time we were only looking for attorney's who would show our profile for free and if their services would be beneficial to please contact us back.
I also put in there what we were open to such as either gender and any race and this stood out to one attorney. She said the reason she would go ahead and show our profile was because we would take any race.
GL and let me know how it goes!
