Chicco keyfit and contact dermatitis?

This is all over the Amazon reviews.  Lots of parents saying the fabric causes babies to overheat, and then break out into a horrible rash. If you have and use this seat, is it true?  We tend to have babies with sensitive skin, so I'm a little freaked by this.  Thanks for your opinions, information!

  • If there are Amazon reviews,  why don't you believe them?

  • I wouldn't expect it to just be the Keyfit30 and frankly that doesn't sound like contact dermatitis anyway. It sounds like heat rash which is totally different. Contact dermatitis would have to be from fabric actually coming into contact with the baby's skin. If your child is clothed there is probably not a ton of bare skin on the fabric. Heat rash, though, happens from a LOT of carseats becuase the baby is up against fabric and padding and sometimes for a prolonged period of time. It can happen in any season as well.

  • I use this seat and live in Miami, Florida. We have not had any problems.
  • Yes!  We had this problem when DS was 4-5 months, during the summer time when his legs/arms were exposed to the seat fabric and it made him sweat.  He had what looked like a scaly rash, kinda like eczema.  We had to lay a blanket under him or have him wear longsleeves/pants and then we got a convertible car seat.  It went away after a month or 2.

  • DS never had a problem when he was in the carseat.  We plan on using the seat again with new baby.
