When do you plan on starting them? Feel free to give your reasoning or not.
Also, do you plan on making your own baby food?
Obviously situations can change, but I plan on waiting until 6 months if I can. I just feel like we are doing great with BFing now after a bumpy road and I don't want to add anything in until I have to.
I plan on making the majority of his food.

My baby is two!!! Baby girl 9/17/09
My other baby is still a baby! Baby Boy 11-30-11
The plan was to wait until 6 months to move to anything other than his oatmeal.
But he is LOVING the oatmeal. Does the happy dance when I pull it out, tries to grab the spoon, hollers for more when it's gone, tries to grab MY spoon at the dinner table. We may start earlier if the ped recommends it. ::shrugs::
I am planning to start about a week before DS turns 6 mo. old. The pedi okayed us starting at 4 mo. but I want him to get as much breast milk as possible, especially since he just started daycare. The only reason I am going to start a week before he turns 6 mo. old is just because I wanted to start and see how it is going and then be able to ask the pedi any questions when I go in for the 6 mo. appt. I am excited to start soon - it is a big milestone!
ETA: I will probably not make my own food. I just started going back to law school and I feel like I am too busy and I don't want to give myself more to do. BUT, I will be off all summer so I guess I'll see if I feel like doing it then. I know it is a great way to save $.
Great idea!!
We started rice cereal last night & DD was a champ! She ate numerous bites and have wonderful tounge control & she drank her bottle fine afterwards. This is the start I guess...we will continue rice cereal for a few weeks & go to vegetables from there.
I don't plan on making my own baby food unless I get a free magic bullet....
We started at 4 months with our pediatricians consent. DS was showing all the signs of being ready: sitting unsupported, very interested in us eating, and consuming mass quantities of BM daily.
I make all his food except for prunes because they are a PITA to make, IMO. He has had: sweet potatoes, acorn squash, green beans, peas, carrots, zucchini, summer squash, avocado. Now that he has had all those veggies, we are starting some fruits: prunes, pears, and bananas.
He never had rice cereal and I only use oatmeal to thicken up a puree that would be too runny otherwise.
He eats a 1 oz cube of fruit with 1-2 oz cube(s) of veggies at 5 pm. I EBF on demand the rest of the time.
We also plan to wait until 6 months. Flame away but I am always so surprised when I see how young the babies are in some of the solids posts. I think someone today was feeding purees to a 3 month old!
I already bought a baby food mill and the ice cube trays and plan on making all my own organic food. Who knows what chemicals and preservatives are in store bought stuff. Plus, we'll eat better as a result!
Started oatmeal at 4 months. He was HUNGRY! haha he was sleeping through the night then started waking up every 2 hours (never even did that as a newborn) and wanted to eat every time. Now that he's been on oatmeal he sttn again
I feel the same. I EPd since she was born and wasn't successful with nursing until 2 months. I'll keep nursing her as long as I can without solids. Really hoping that she doesn't want them earlier than 6 months.
The plan right now is to make her food with all organics, but we'll see how difficult I find it when the time comes. I'll probably start making it a week or so before we plan on giving them to her and freeze in ice cube trays, then pop them in a ziploc baggie.
We'll start after 6 month appointment. Wanted to wait because of the whole AAP/WHO spiel. We've made it this far, so why the heck not?
Will make our own baby food.

I plan to wait until AT LEAST 6 months. Everything I've read says that the longer you delay the better off you'll be in terms of things like food allergies and that their primary source of nutrition for the first year should be BM or formula regardless of when you start solids. Every major health org, including the AAP, recommends waiting until 6 months.
We also plan on making the majority of his food

We are going to the doctor tomorrow and he said that he would talk to us then. DH hopes that we can start feeding him then, I wish to wait a little longer. But if he suggest that we start now I guess we could start on rice or oatmeal for awhile. Then we are both planning on making his food for him. I breastfeed and love it. Don't really want him to get anything else, I think I just want him to stay my baby and I don't want to share! Although sometimes I think that he would like some bites of our food from the way he acts, so it is probably time for cereal.
Here I am going on and on again, sorry.
Planned to start at 6 months, but Jacob decided he was ready early. So far it's been a week and a half and we've had rice and oatmeal cereals. (He likes oatmeal better, and likes the softbite spoons better than plastic).
I am making almost all of his baby food, although I'm not opposed to the occasional jar.
