Two Under 2

What were your stroller requirements?

I am having the worst time trying to figure out what our needs/wants/etc. all add up to in terms of finding a double.. Everytime I think I settle on something I change my mind. We were all set to get the Joovy Ergo Caboose and borrow my sister's BOB duallie BUT found out today the BOB is not carseat compatible, it is one year too old. So now we're wondering if we should just get a double jogger since I want to be able to use it for walking in summer but maybe not a real jogger, something more like a baby jogger or bumbleride indie so I can use it from newborn with/without the carseat.

Are those strollers really way too big to take into stores? I am not sure... we won't be in the shops a ton but would still need it sometimes. Ugh. I am just not sure what to do for the best! How did you make up your mind?

Re: What were your stroller requirements?

  • One thing I found with 2U2 is that carseat-stroller compatibility was nowhere near as important with #1 as it was with #2.

I have the P&T sport and almost bought the adapter, remembering how convenient and easy it was to be able to go from carseat to stroller.  But I found that I really didn't need it.  Sure there have been a few times when it would have been nice, but not enough to make a difference in my stroller purchase

You already have to take one kid out of a carseat and buckle him into a stroller when going somewhere, one more isn't a big deal.  I mean, there is really no such thing as "quick errands" with 2U2.

With one LO, it was great because you didn't have to disturb them if they were sleeping by taking them out of a carseat into a stroller.  But now, I want DD to be awake when DS is - so hopefully they nap at the same time and I get some "me" time.  It works!  Now she'll fall asleep in the car on the way home and once we get home, DS takes his nap.  So I usually get a good 2 hours where they are both napping

Obviously my system isn't going to work for everyone, but I it's something to think about.  GL!

    Ditto this.

    I wanted something that was:

    -tandem

    -not super-long

-good on streets or bumpy wooded paths

    - good for long walks or short jogs

    - easy to fold/not super heavy or super bulky

-flexible, so good for 1 kid or 2

    -steers well/rides easily

We wound up with a P&T Classic.  It's been terrific.  Baby #2 is almost big enough to go in the back seat - until then, it's been bassinet for him.  But I love, love, love this stroller.

Duh, except that I meant it wasn't as important with #2 as it was with #1.  emas, glad you understood what I meant lol

  • It took me a minute but I got what you meant in the end..

My only hesitations with the P&T is that DS is already over 30 lbs so he is too big for the back seat entirely. And I don't love the baby being that low to the ground somehow when they're really little - was it ever a problem? The other issue was on the Classic and I think the sport maybe - he was too tall to be in the jump seat when it was in the front becuase his head was above the canopy... Are the dash/vibe any taller than the sport or classic?

  • Are you sure it's 30 lbs?  Because I am almost positive mine is 33 lbs.  It doesn't seem like a huge difference, but they do slow down a lot in terms of growth.  My DS is pretty big but he's not even 33 lbs yet.  I could be wrong on the weight limit - I would have to look it up

DD loves the jump seat and it is completely false when people say they stare at the back of the front seat.  She sees the world just fine, it is ridiculous to say they can't see anything

DS was in the jump seat in the front for the first 3 months while DD was in the bassinet and he was fine.  We never had a problem with his head being over the canopy but you can easily remove the canopy too

  • DS is about 33 lbs now so even if it was 33 lbs it wouldn't work for us. And I don't know abotu removing the canopy, what would you use to shade them then? We'd be using it in summer - I'm due in June.

It isn't that I'm worried about not seeing anything, I guess it is more like exhaust fumes, dirt, that sort of thing when they're teeny tiny and in the bassinet.  I think I'm probably being neurotic so I'm just trying to guage if anyone else thought that....

  • I won't have two under 2, mine will be 2 years and 5 months apart, but I too have struggled with the car seat snapping into a double issue.  I finally decided that I'm going with a cheaper stroller and not worrying about the car seat.  My baby is due in March and if it was going to be cold for many months I might want a car seat to snap in.  Since my son will be a little older than most of your oldests on this board, I do have the option of letting him walk wiht me if I want the car seat to snap into the single stroller we have from my son.  That won't be very often since I really don't trust him to stay next to me, but it can be done.  Good luck deciding.  I am just going with the Chicco umbrella type double, but if my were going to be closer I'd probably spend a little more and get a more versatile stroller.  Good luck deciding!
  • I thought I had this all figured out but then realized I don't - and it started to stress me out!  I've decided to wait to purchase a stroller until the little one is here and "established" and I know more what my needs will be.  Until then, daughter #1 can ride in the cart and #2 can be worn.  It will be the middle of winter when #1 gets here anyway so I don't expect to be out and about too much for a couple of months...that and #1 is staying in daycare 2 days a week while I'm home on leave so I can plan my outings on those days...with one child...
