Playtex Drop In Users

Do you measure your water in the actual drop in container? I used to be an Avent bottle user and am in the process of switiching.  It seems that the drop ins measure differently however.  The 5 oz of water I measured in the Avent this morning was close to 6 when I put it in the drop in (before adding formula).  Anyone else find this to be true? Do you measure the water before adding to bottle? Thanks!

  • I measure my EBM before putting it in the liner.  I've found they aren't accurate.

  • I am usually putting BM from a freezer bag that has already been measured but if I am getting a bottle ready that I need to add formula to I measure it in another bottle (like one I use for pumping) because you are right they are hard to read on the drop in liners. Also, to complicate matters we just switched to the 8 oz drop liners that can expand to accomodate 10 oz....

Anyways, could you put a mark on the outside of the actual bottle to mark what 5 oz. is as measured by another bottle? Hopefully that makes sense.

Ditto. I use a breast milk storage container I had left over and measure the water out in that.

  • I've found the same thing.  I measured the water in a measuring cup until I was comfortable with the amount that needed to be in the bottle.

  • Make sure you are using the right measure on the side of the bottle. There is one that is for the expandable liners and one on the other side for the 8 oz regular liners. I find it's fairly accurate but for convenience sake, I use a small plastic measuring cup to pour the water in after I've put the powder in just because it can get messy if you put the water in first.

  • I use a measuring cup, then pour it in. I read the lines to guess how much she ate when she's done, but I dont use the lines to measure it when I put it in.

  • Am I the only one who doesn't really keep track or worry how much he's eating? We use liquid formula so I don't mix each bottle individually. I just fill up the liner to the top and he eats as much as he wants. Sometimes he leaves some and that's OK too.

Why does it matter so much?

  • If you have the Expandable Drop-Ins make sure you're looking at the correct measurements. They billow out so of course they're not oging to match up to the regular measurements once slid into the bottle.

Other than that, I measure my water in the drop in first and then place the drop in into the bottle and haven't had any problems whatsoever.

I measure because she was diagnosed with reflux and didnt gain weight in 3 weeks, so I started keeping track again.
