nursing=drowsiness?

Does BF make you really sleepy? Everytime I nurse DD, I have to try my hardest not to fall asleep! I didn't BF DD1 so I'm not sure if it's a normal occurance at first.

Re: nursing=drowsiness?

  • I get really tired when I'm feeding DS. I try to eat something or drink something before hand to keep me focused, and watch tv to keep my mind going. But in the middle of the night it's really hard to keep my eyes open.

  • HAPPENS TO ME TOO IN THE NEWBORN STAGE ANYWAY. MAYBE THE SLEEP DEPRIVATION PAIRED WITH BEING STILL FOR SEVERAL MINUTES MAKES THE DROWSINESS INEVITABLE.
  • he's two months and I'm still nodding off each time!

    must be the oxytocin that is released naturally when they nurse.

  • It is very relaxing. With a baby that young though, I'd be stunned if you weren't sleepy all the time though!

  • Oxytocin overdose :-)

    It will get better.

  • Yes. I'm pretty sure oxytocin gets released which is a relaxing hormone.
  • Definitely for the first two weeks. After that, it starts getting better! At least it did for me. Congratulations on your new baby!
