Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Anyone make their own baby food?

I really want to start doing this but don't really know where to begin.  If you make your own food what resources do you reccomend and what appliances do you use?(specific for making baby food or regular steamer, food processor, ect)  TIA

Re: Anyone make their own baby food?

  • I plan on using my Magic Bullet to make it when the time comes.  I will be using recipes from this website https://wholesomebabyfood.com/index.htm

  • I use my regular ole blender and some ice cube trays. Fancy stuff, I know :)

wholesomebabyfood.com has just about everything you need to know. It's very easy and slight addicting.

    Have fun!

  • Ditto wholesomebabyfood.com.. we have a small food processor and a blender, don't know which we'll use primarily. I also got a digital food steamer for Christmas that I can't wait to use for baby food.
  • I plan on it.  I'll use my cuisinart food processor and probably a microwave steamer.  Ditto www.wholesomebabyfood.com

  • We bought this used:  https://www.beabausa.com/

It steams, purees, and defrosts.  All you have to do is take your veggie or fruit of choice, throw it in there to steam then puree and you're done!  You can then serve fresh or put them in ice cube trays to freeze for future use.

  • I use the everything cooking for baby and toddler cookbook Its a great resource because it  breaks down the months they should have what foods.

I use a food processor ( a small one) and a fine strainer for some foods like peas.

  • Pot and steamer pot to steam, blender to puree. I do not freeze in ice cube trays like most people do. I freeze in containers of 2-3 cups and have one container in the fridge at a time. I scoop what I need for lunches and dinners and give cereal for breakfast, sometimes with mashed banana or apple puree.

  • I just use a cheap food processor ($4) from walmart. I have some small glad and rubbermaid containers for freezing to take along and soon il purchase the ones made for storing baby food from One Step Ahead. I use wholesomebabyfood as well.

We (and by "we" I mean "DH") are using the regular blender as well. Nothing fancy.

  • I've started doing this, steaming veggies and pureeing them in the magic bullet... and yesterday I had a bright idea. I lay a sheet of plastic wrap on my mini-muffin tin, then put one tsp of (pureed green beans) food in each muffin indent. Froze it. It worked great and wasn't as 'deep' as an ice cube tray. Once frozen, I put the whole 'sheet' of plastic wrap with beans attached into a ziplock, and can peel off a 'puck' whenever I want. Perfect.

  • I spent one afternoon making a bunch, I made small amounts of many kinds in anticipation of starting solids next week.

I used wholesomebabyfood as my main resource. I used a regular pot with a steamer pot on top. then I used a mini food processor or my blender (the blender worked better for the peas & green beans)

I just steamed them then purred and added back some of the water (except for the carrots) to thin it. Then I froze them in ice cube trays and once frozen transferred to freezer bags.

I made peas, green beans, carrots, sweet potatos, apples, mango, peaches, and pears. It was so easy. I will be blogging about it next week when L starts on solids.
