It isn't my intention to be mean, but DAMN. Her poor child. How dehydrated does the child have to be to go into a coma. I really don't understand. It just isn't fair that those kids are helpless bystanders in her weird little world. If my DD went to the ER with symptoms like that, there would be absolutely NO WAY there would be a concern for ingesting something like anti-freeze. Not in my house. It is horrifying to me that that is even a possibility and I truly hope that she considers her philosophy on childproofing.
I wonder if she'll choose to accept government assistance in the face of a medical emergency. Otherwise, they will probably never recover from the out of pocket expenses of an ICU stay without medical insurance. I wonder if people will see her as a hypocrit for using the state health insurance given what she's already said about it and her thoughts on why insurance is unnecessary.
I hope that her child will be OK... and I hope that she's learned a few valuable lessons here.
Re: Under 1k mom...
i really hope that this is a situation where she can really reassess how they're living their lives, and really gain some perspective about changes that truly need to take place.
what worries me - and you might think i'm a biitch for this - is that her followers are going to start sending her money, justifying her ideals and views, so that they can pay their bills. i think they probably need help, but i also think that this needs to be a learning experience and not a situation that justifies how dangerously she's living. at the very least they need to realize that they need to get health insurance or gov assistance. this isn't about pride, or even jesus, this is about the health and safety of your children.
First, I would have called a doctor way sooner than she did. If my child does nothing but sleep all day, that's a warning sign.
Second, I completely believe that you have to protect your children by getting health insurance somehow, even if that means state health insurance or changing my budget so that health insurance is my #1 priority. I think that it is so stupid to go without it.
Also, there is no way in h3ll that there would be a question as to whether my child drank anti-freeze. Even if you have the most obedient child in the world, I would not tempt fate and leave the anti-freeze in a place where little ones could reach it.
I don't understand the dehydration issue. I make sure that my children drink enough milk/whatever each day. I keep track (in my head) of how much they eat and drink every day. I know that some days they eat better than others, but this is odd.
Then again, I shouldn't judge her so quickly since I've had to take my kids to the ER for preventable reasons. I could completely be judged for some of my parenting skills. Sigh.
If a child presents to the ER as comatose, I believe one of the normal, routine tests is for antifreeze. The stuff can be found in paint and even some cosmetics. So be careful when judging about people being tested for antifreeze, or ethylene glycol.
"Ethylene glycol can be found in many consumer products, including automotive antifreeze, hydraulic brake fluids, inks used in some stamp pads, ballpoint pens, solvents, paints, plastics, and solar energy systems." https://www.atsdr.cdc.gov/mhmi/mmg96.html
That being said, I don't know anything about this lady. Is she trying to be thrifty and save money or prove a point? Does she disregard her children's safety?

I just can't imagine letting extreme lethargy in my child go on for 3 days until they fell into a coma and had breathing issues. She says he went to the bathroom once on tuesday.
what? ONCE?
I will admit that when I first read her notice a few days ago, and feared for the kids, I had a small hope that if something did happen to them, it might be just enough to force them to face reality a little bit.
Yeah, we would have been going to the ER immediately. I don't get it. This is making me so incredibly sad for her son. She needs to get a grip, take her head out of her ass, and take care of her children properly.
I classify that as child neglect, not taking your child to the ER when they are clearly lethargic and ill and having breathing issues and not going to the bathroom. Crystal clear signs of dehydration.
I kind of hope her husband does most of the talking at the hospital. this will ensure prompt understanding of the tragic situation at hand.
I think that's a big possibility. But there is no way it would be enough to cover the kind of expenses that will come from having a child in a coma without insurance. I think she has more people that read out of curiosity or to witness the train wreck (like us) than readers who will just blindly send her money. And I have a feeling that her target audience doesn't have a lot of extra money to send anyway.
I really hope it helps her snap back into reality.
I was getting nervous b/c K fell asleep in her high chair the other day (which she has literally NEVER done before) and was checking her temp the rest of the day. I don't understand how she let him be that sick for so long.
I'm really not trying to judge her, I just literally don't understand what her thought process was to wait THAT long and really wonder, after seeing pictures of her house and this incident, what all her children have access to.

This is what I was thinking. She says he pretty much slept all of Monday, Tuesday AND Wednesday. Umm it takes 3 days of your kid sleeping to realize something is wrong?! I just don't get it. I just hope he is okay, and that she wakes up.
