Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Moms with LOs with Acid Reflux...please read

Morning!  I just wanted to share something with all you who have babies with reflux.  DS has been on Zantac for mild acid reflux.  On Thursday I took my son to the store and to run a few errands.  I kept checking on him in the mirror as he had fallen alsleep.  Something looked strange because his head was leaning over and typically doesn't. I tried to adjust his head at the stop light and he did not respond. I immediately pulled over as I was screaming his name and no response.  I got into the back seat and tried wake him and still nothing.  I quickly started to unbuckle him and he woke up crying.  I was a WRECK! This happened again!  I took him to the ER and they ran tons of test and came to find out that refulx can actually cause him to pass out when sitting in the carseat.  PLEASE, just be aware if you are dealing with reflux.  This was so scary!!

  • Oh wow, that's scary.  I'm so glad he's ok.  LO has severe reflux, and she's on Prevacid.  Thanks for letting us know.

  • Wow - that's really terrifying, I'm so sorry that happened to you!   (And so glad he's okay!)
  • That is my absolute worst nightmare.

I'm constantly reaching behind me to tap him & see if he responds.

I'm glad your LO is okay!

  • Seriously scary! Thank you for sharing.

And to think that our first pedi (ugh, long gone now) told us to let her sleep in her carseat (we don't, we tilted her mattress)!

  • I'm really glad your LO is ok. How scary for you. I hope you can get more info and have a better peace of mind now.

  • OMG...my DS has reflux and he SLEEPS in his carseat (b/c he doesn't like to sleep on his back yet). You brought tears to my eyes just thinking about how scary that would be. I'm so sorry that happened to you. I'm glad your LO is ok.
  • This is why I think travel systems are a bad idea- babies shouldn't be in carseats more than is necessary for safe travel.

It's not just reflux babies that can have trouble in carseats- preemies and very little babies can have their airflow obstructed as well.
