S/O Pot (Flameworthy confession)

I was a massive pot head for years. I cut down when Dh and I started trying for a baby and stopped completely when I found out I was pregnant. But after the baby's born, and I'm finished breastfeeding, I would be a liar if I said I wasn't going to smoke pot anymore. Probably not at the level I was, I mean, I have a kid to take care of, but I won't quit completely.

  • I don't really care what you do when you are not pregnant. As long as it isn't around the baby etc.

  • Please, pah-lease tell me you will not be doing this around your child.

People give up things once they have kids and I'm sorry IMO this is something I would.

  • Never was a pot smoker, but I'm of the opinion that I'm 34 years old with kids. Time to grow up and put away that kind of stuff.

  • o.k. maybe I am dumb here, but pot is illegal, if you do something illegal there is a chance of going to jail. If you are in jail you can not raise your child properly or be setting a good example.....but that is just my opinion I guess.

That's how I feel too. I never have nor will ever smoke pot. But I think when LO's come in the picture time to give it up.

I would never do it AROUND my child. While my kid was napping I would probably slip outside for a couple minutes of mommy time.

  • As long as you aren't smoking around LO, I couldn't care less.

I will probably smoke some pot every now and then with my friends.

Oh my gosh...you do know that it is illegal right?   AND the company that you may keep or know could affect your child and your life.  Wow.  I work for social services and hearing that just gets my blood boiling.

  • If you want to get high or even drunk at a party or what have you when your child isn't around and you are not caring for them that is your life.

The issue I would have is if you are smoking it then have to care for your child.  I would be that busy body neighbor (who if they found out) would call child services.

  • You are a moron for putting this on the internet.

Good for you, you should call social services.  Children are way to precious to not get involved.

  • ::judging:: Seells, I remember you from GP. C'mon now. You are pregnant and about to be a mother. Time to grow up and PUT YOUR CHILD FIRST. Part of that is taking care of YOUR health and well being.

  • I don't have anything against people doing pot...except that it's illegal.  If it were legal, people could sit around and smoke blunts and I'd be fine (I wouldn't but I also don't drink to get drunk or smoke cigarettes).  But it's not legal here and I think that's what makes it wrong to do (especially as a parent).

Sure sure, there are a lot of things that were illegal that were awful (women voting, interracial marriage, etc), but I don't think pot is one of those things.

  • "Mommy time"?  I don't think you need pot-smoking "mommy time" while the baby is napping.  Then you will be high taking care of LO when they wake up.  It's time to get priorities in order and grow up.  You are not responsible for just yourself anymore.

If you choose to get high at a party while someone else is baby sitting, that is one thing.  But even that is so lame for anyone pretending to be a responsible adult.

    This!  Hmm

I just hope that once you see that precious little baby - you'll rethink this whole thing!  If you ever got caught...they could take your baby away from you.  Is that worth getting high over?  I think not!

This depends on where you are.  And I don't find any problem with smoking recreationally on occasion when you are not with your child.  I personally think it is the same thing as having a few drinks on occasion.  I also find it funny to assume that if you know people who smoke they are junky criminals or something.  I know plenty of people who smoke who are upstanding citizens with great jobs and awesome family life.

Really? Pot smoking is illegal? *ducks* I'm totally joking, but as someone who was a teenager in BC, it's really common. It also does less damage to you then smoking cigarrettes or drinking if it's in moderation. (Total pothead does NOT tell me moderation, however) I gave it up when I turned 21 with the idea it was time to be an adult. I had several friends in school who had grown up around pot-smoking parents. They don't seem to be effected by it.

It's not the horrible, no good, evil thing that many people think it is. It's still not responsible, reccomended, or reasonable to do around a child, even if LO is sleeping and you are outside. Kids are smart and they'll figure it out eventually, and it will be incredibly hard to have the conversation with them.

"Gee, Timmy, you should avoid drugs at school"

    "Why, mom? You do them."

Why are you announcing this on a public forum? If you are going to make that lifestyle choice, why broadcast 'I'm a bad girl.....' when you know people are going to take exception to it?

  • You have got to be kidding! Both of my parents where pot heads, and had us taken away by CPS 3 times! They never did it around us either, but other people called and made complaints. The last time we where taken it took them nearly 2 years to get us back, I really hope your ready for that battle if it comes, all because you want to smoke pot. How stupid.

couldn't have said it much better myself. there are certainly a lot of pearl clutchers on this board. i don't think anyone should be under the influence of any substance while caring for a child but for some of you to say you would call child services because parents smoke pot, that is just utterly ridiculous. so if someone chooses to smoke a joint on a saturday night long after junior is in bed this makes them a bad person vs. polishing off a bottle of wine, holy double standard.

and for those who played the "it's illegal and you could go to jail" card, in most places unless you are holding a large amount of marijuana it's a misdemeanor possession charge, usually with no jail time.

  • Pot is pot and I know worse when people get drunk when their babies are in bed BUT  it's illegal.  That is the thing.  Would you steal shampoo from Walmart while having some "mommy time"?  No of course not because you could get caught and go to jail.  Would you drunk drive while LO is at the sitters?  No because  the consequenses that come with that.  Wedd will be fine when it's legal!

Not true with CPS...maybe you wont go to jail but your kids might not be with you for awhile.  Is it worth it?  I hope not.

  • Okay so when your child is waking up from the nap you are still under the influence?

You are from CO yes?  You do remember the little girl that was shot just because her father didnt pay his "tab".  Do you think he really wanted that to happen in his living room?  No.
Unfortantly with weed being illegal it isnt like beer...you cant run to the corner store and grab a case you have to go to certain folks to find what you need.  That is the difference. Once it is completely legal in CO I see it changing the company that the drug brings along.

This is exactly why you deserved to be flamed - just because your child is asleep does not mean you don't have responsibilities.  God forbid you should have to recognize an emergency situation and drive to the hospital while you were still high - don't argue that pot smoking doesn't affect those abilities because it does.  Do what you want when you are not responsible for taking care of your child, but don't ever expect sympathy should you be arrested for doing something illegal.

ETA - I would judge someone the same way for drinking alcohol or doing anything else that impairs their abilities (for ex. sleeping pills) while being the responsible party for a child.  IMO, prepare for the worst, hope for the best so that there should always be someone in the house available and able to drive the child to the hospital.

You two and the OP are the most idiotic people I've ever encountered. So... when baby wakes up and starts choking on something or God forbid, doesn't wake up, how the hell are you stoners going to get your child to the emergency room? Will you even be coherent enough to call 911?

Oh wait... I'm sure you would all put yourselves first and wait until you sobered up before doing so, so that you wouldn't get busted by the cops.

Yes they are, but you also have to pay the consequences when caught.

  • Lets just sat that you come back in after your "mommy time" and LO wakes up and you notice the baby has a fever or a bad diaper rash or something even seemingly common but decide to call the pedi and pedi asks that you bring LO in. Then what?

Or, maybe, the baby gets a rash or you cut LO's finger while triming nails or a million other things and you have to drive to the doctor or to the store to get diapers or formula or...well anything?? then what?
