I probably should have said more in my original post and I think it would have made more sense. I'll explain. (Btw - I haven't read all of the comments yet.)
I am BIG on "Drugs are bad!!". I DO NOT smoke pot, pregnant or not. I do not take any drugs, I don't smoke ciggarettes, I really don't do anything bad. I am too conservative as far as my friends are concerned. I do not agree with people taking drugs, pretty much ever. Where I live, medical marajuana was just made legal. I do agree with medical marajuana. If a doctor says it can help someone with something, fine.
While the debates were going on about whether to legalize or not, I have been thinking about this. I have been suffering HORRIBLY with morning sickness - all day, every day for over two months now. I joked that it is too bad that it is bad for the baby because I would be willing to do anything to get rid of this sickness. I know medical marajuana is proven to help cancer patients with nausea.
Anyway, I am just trying to get feedback on whether or not there are any women out there that think it is safe for the baby. I'm considering asking my doctor about it. But I feel really weird considering how ANTI-DRUG I am. I wouldn't smoke it, but if my doctor prescribed it, I would bake it in something and eat it if I knew it would help. Nothing else has worked and if this lasts the whole pregnancy I think I will die (not literally). I just keep loosing weight and this is just awful.
Re: F/U: Pot while pregnant
I would rather puke all day/every day than smoke pot and harm my baby.
You are only at 12 weeks. You are still in your first trimester. Its not uncommon for you to have severe morning sickenss.
By the way, my girlfriend was so bad during her first pregnancy that they had to give her medication. She also took it during this second pregnancy as soon as she started to get sick. There ARE other options besides illegal drugs.
I am not going to say m/s doesnt suck. I know, firsthand, how awful it is. My m/s was severe, I ended up in the hospital multiple times from dehydration, and I still throw up occasionally.
But, I would have NEVER considered using pot to help me with it. Have you tried Zofran?
Have you tried Zofran? I have severe m/s and have lost 7 lbs. in about 3 weeks. Once I started on Zofran, I started feeling alot better. I still gag and puke and carry on, but I am able to function most days.
I'm glad you don't smoke pot. Please don't start.
Well it wouldn't be illegal. It would be medical marajuana. But, yeah, I know there are other options, been there, done that. My last pregnancy I was only sick for 5 weeks, so this time when I've now been sick for over two months I'm just getting worried.
I was sick for 16w. If nothing helps, nothing helps. I dealt with it. LO was way too important to me.
Talk to your doc about...Zofran, I think it is. Otherwise the big girl panties go on and I just handle it.
I guess you missed the part where I explained how straight laced I am. Maybe you are high.
Yep, you are probably right.
Yep, Zofran kept me from throwing up but it didn't help the nausea or lack of appetite. I still can barely eat and am loosing weight.
Absolutely, you caught me. I think you're lazy for not sticking out the rough part while pregnant. Morning sickness is the LEAST of your worries as a mom.
BIO
But, you are only 12 WEEKS. Seriously. Give it time. I was losing weight and unable to eat up until 15 weeks. I think you're just looking for an easy way out and you're putting your baby at risk. That's stupid. Stick with the Zofran and wait until you are at least in 2nd tri.
I am not tryign to be a meany, but if I were you, I would be thankful for m/s because TRUST me there are tons of women out there who have had multiple m/c, or simply will never be able to have children, and I am sure they would trade m/s ANY DAY in order to be able to have a child...im just sayin...
Try ginger ale, and citrus fruit helped me out a ton...my doc told me it was okay to take Emetrol...but check with your doc, I am sure there are better things than drugs for your child...
Actually, morning sickness is a big worry because I am a Mom. I can't play with my daughter like I use to. Thank goodness she has had lots of bonding time with Daddy, but I am lucky if I can get off the couch. It is so sad to think I am too sick to really enjoy her. If this morning sickness is over in a week or two, I will be soooo happy! I am just such a worry-wort and I worry that it will last the whole pregnancy.
By the way, asking questions and doing my research is absolutely NOT putting my baby at risk. I am trying to prepare myself with knowledge.
YES, thank you! There are so many women out there that don't even believe morning sickness is real, so it is always nice to have someone understand exactly. I will check out that website.
You're right. I was a bit too harsh on you. But, I stick by what I said. You're only 12 weeks. Stick with Zofran and see how you feel in a month or so. As long as you aren't throwing up, that's one good thing. I know how it feels. GL.
DIDO!
It is legal here, which is why I've been asking questions about it. Of course my immediate reaction would be that it would have to be bad for the baby, but then again sooooo many prescriptions that Drs still prescribe to pregnant women are bad for the baby. So, I figured I would try to do some research to see where it scales in comparison, you know. I'm sure there isn't enough research on it yet though. Thought I'd see if anyone here was brave enough to tell of their experience if they've tried it themselves.
I've been taking Zofran since I was 8 weeks, and I am almost 17 weeks. Starting at 4 weeks, I was vomiting 6-8 times a day.
Zofran has done practically nothing, so I totally understand your frustration. I'm still vomiting 4-5 times a day.
I know you are frustrated. Zofran isn't a cure all for a lot of women.
That said, I wouldn't do it, but I can understand the desperation you are feeling.
Trust me.
i think you're really smart for looking into this, and i would ask my doctor if i were you.
:-( I'm sorry you are having such a horrible time with m/s.
I didnt read the responses - but h*ll no I would not do that.
unisom helped me with morning sickness & since its as safe or safer than the RXs, Im going to bet its a better choice than pot.
I think a lot of people are assuming Sea Bands, Unisom, and Zofran work for everyone.
If your m/s is bad enough none of these things will help. I think it is a little ridiculous to assume that every woman who vomits can be helped with these things.
I'm not saying pot is the solution, but I can certainly understand someone wanting to do anything to stop how they feel.
Not everyone can just "work through" m/s.
