Success after IF

If You Did Acupuncture - Come In

If you did acupuncture, do you attribute your success in getting KU to it at all?  Did it help with any of the overt IF symptoms, like irregular cycles, endo pain, etc.?  I am reading "Making Babies" and Dr. Sami David says that some studies show that it increases the success rate of IVF by up to 65%.

Re: If You Did Acupuncture - Come In

  • I did it, but I did it as more of a relaxation once a week bec the whole "journey" of IVF was so stressful...........we also did the laser acu the day of but only bec the clinic talked me into it........do i think it helped me get pg? No, but it helped make me relaxed. I will say that the acu guy knew i was pg based on my increased pulse a few days later though!

  • I did it and really attribute it to our success with IVF#2.  I didn't start doing it during my cycle or while stimming, I did it the day of transfer immediately before and after the ET, then a couple days later when implantation would occur and after I got a BFP, I continued weekly all through the 1st tri, until about 15weeks actually.  I will probably start up with it again when we are ready to try for no. 2...if we try.
  • I did acu for 6 weeks before my FET, and the cycle worked.  I'm not sure if acu had anything to do with it, but I will say that 1/2 hour per week was my favorite part of the week in those days.  It was the only 1/2 hour I allowed myself to imagine what it would be like to get pregnant and have a baby (it was really the only time I felt positive during IF).

  • I did it for about a year and a half (and would still be doing it if it weren't so $$).  We had been TTC for just over two years when I started, and I got my first-ever BFP just three months after starting.  Unfortunately, that pregnancy was ectopic (a complete fluke).  I got pregnant again just using acupuncture, but that ending in an early m/c.  Just after I stopped going (though I'm sure the effects were still present), I did a Clomid cycle that was successful.

I really believe that the acu, coupled with the changes that he suggested for my diet and lifestyle, helped my endo symptoms tremendously.  I recommend at least trying it, but be sure that you find someone who has experience with IF.

  • I did after my first failed round of IVF. In the beginning I was going 2x a week and then before and after my transfer for my FET (which was a BFN). And then only did it a hand full of times during my second fresh IVF. I found it to be more relaxing then anything else., you get this weird tingilly feeling.  And it REALLY helped with my migranes that I was getting do to all the hormones and Lupron.

Also it was quite expensive 85$ for each visit and it wasn't covered by my insurance. She also wanted me to cut out all types of food and things and change my diet which I wasn't really into. But that is just me.

  • I do believe it helped me respond better in my last IVF cycle.  I responded better on a lower dose of meds than I had during previous cycles.  I'm sure it also helped that I was off work during my last cycle (I'm a teacher - it was during the summer) and therefore was less stressed overall.  I continuerd acu once a week through my first tri.  It helped tame the nausea for me.
  • I don't know if it helped me get pregnant, but it obviously didn't hurt.  I did with all my IUIs, and those were not successful.

I just enjoyed the relaxation.  The woman I went to was very affordable ($50/session, which lasted 1 hour).  I did it throughout my IVF cycle.  I scheduled an extra appointment to help increase bloodflow to my uterus because my lining was thin during my cycle.  I did it pre-ET, about 30 hours after ET, and then a few times during first tri.

  • It did not help me get pregnant.

It helped tremendously with spotting issues, for about a year and a half. Then it stopped working.

  • I think it was part of the puzzle.  I did it for 6 months hoping I wouldn't have to go the IUI/inj route.  However, after no BFP for 6 months I did go with IUI/inj and got pregnant.  I think it helped with making my luteal phase a little longer and my periods a little longer.  It will be interesting to see if IUI works again this time without the acupunture.  Now that I have a little one I don't have the time or money to devote to going to acu regularly.  Good luck!

  • I did it for my FET which was a chemical pg.  I was still doing it when I got my break cycle BFP - 1 month after my chemical pg/mc.  I also did when I got my 2nd BFP (break cycle).

I think it helps a LOT!

I don't have endo pain, but do have mild endo (or did).  I think it helps all that...

  • I did it and defintely think it helped.  I'm not saying that it helped with all the physical problems associated with IF - though when I told my RE that I was doing it he seemed happy.  I know there are a lot of studies out there that show doing treatment pre and post ET can help out a lot (not sure of actual stats).  For me, the major help was just getting the time to relax and be by myself.  I defintely think it help relax me and it was something just for me.
