Clicky Poll: Fake Rings

I work on a college campus and these kiddos {yes, they are babies considering that my freshmen class was 5 when I graduated from high school!  And I just turned 30!} look at me like I have some sort of contagious disease when they see my belly. Not only that, but I look like I could be a student that got knocked up at the local frat house.

With DS, I got a ring as soon as my wedding rings didn't fit anymore {basically as soon as it started getting warm outside!} What are your plans?

Re: Clicky Poll: Fake Rings

  • Nope! I am hoping that the guys look at me like "whoa, look at that hot "single" pregnant chick". HA!
  • Loading the player...
  • I probably won't buy a fake set, but I'll more than likely get a plain band,or some other kind of simple ring to wear.  I can always give that to her later and tell her that was my wedding band when I was carrying her.
  • Yes! I bought one with DS, just a plain band. I still have it. When my rings get tight, I'll just put that on.

  • Yes, if I outgrow them.  I never did with Kate, but I'm too young to be comfortable being pregnant with a toddler and no rings.
  • Umm well I really haven't thought about it.. but I do have a really nice fake set.. so that is probably what i will go for or I will just upsize my first wedding set... but right now my rings are fitting perfect...
  • I really don't care if people look at me funny. If my rings stop fitting, I just won't wear one.

  • I voted no b/c if my rings stop fitting I have plenty of other rings (band-type) that will fit on that finger.  I *think* the rings may fit the whole itme though b/c they still fit the same.  When do they usually stop fitting for people?

    ditto this.......

  • I voted "I'm too special" since SO & I aren't married or engaged.  No rings here.

If I did have a wedding or e-ring, I'd more than likely buy a cheap set.

  • I actually have an old ring that I never bothered to get re-sized - so, I'm hoping that it will work...it's not really wedding band looking - but, I just want to keep a ring on...
  • I know exactly what you mean! I work at a university too. They do look at me strange!

I think i will because it is important to me that people know I am married. I know its probably silly and people don't give that much thought to it but to me it matters!

  • I bought a super cheap sterling silver band from Walmart when my rings stopped fitting with DD.  I'll wear that when my rings stop fitting this time.

I look young also so when I'm out, I like people to know that I'm not some knocked-up teen.  Plus, now that I have DD, I want them to realize that there is an established baby daddy.

  • I didn't take my rings off with DD and she was born in August. April is still pretty chilly here so I don't think I'll be taking them off this time around either.
  • I don't konw yet. I didn't get one for K, and I had to stop wearing my rings at 24w. So far, they still fit great. If I come across a nice fakey, I may just get tithough. :)
  • I'm chose I'm not sure yet. My ring is covered under a plan that allows me free sizing, so when my fingers started swelling with DD, I got it sized up, so I only had to go without for about 3 weeks. After the swelling went away, I sized it back down. SO, depending on when/if I start swelling, I will probably size it once, and if I need to take it off to far before my due date, I may get just a band.
  • I bought a fake band from JCP for $20 last time, lol. I was already in the fake ring by this point last time too. My ring fits great now so maybe it will continue to fit.

I have 3 LO's already and I do not want people looking at me all crazy when I am out with no ring,  3 LO's and knocked up again. I live in an area where there are lots of people like that ;)

  • I am a knocked up student. It's...fun. I am not married but engaged so I guess I wont need a fake ring.

  • lol honestly - i hadn't even thought about this at all until this past sunday. My hands were swollen, so I took my rings off and headed out to the mall. Oh gees! the stares I got!

Just an FYI - you don't want to keep resizing your rings.  It will make the metal weaker.

  • I used to think it was ridiculous to do so. But, I'd consider it (although it hasn't been a problem). I'm a grad student on a very conservative campus (and taking one class with sophomores. ) It does make me a bit self conscious.
  • I probably won't get another ring. Last time, I wore my rings on a chain around my neck. I don't really care if people judge me though.
  • I already have the rings! Well, they are some family rings that I didn't size down to fit me, saving them so that I could wear them when I got all swollen. I've been planning ahead since I was about 16 ;-)
  • I'm undecided- my engagement ring is getting tight, but my wedding band is a tad bigger, so I think it MIGHT work the whole time. That might be a naive statement though! If the day comes where that's too tight as well, I'll consider getting a band to just wear until my rings fit again.

This. My e-ring did stop fitting but it was almost a full size smaller than my wedding band. I've since had my e-ring sized to the same size as my wedding band so it shouldn't be a problem.

  • I said no, but I'm not against it or anything I figure it depends on each person's specific case.

  • Seeing that I forget to put my rings on half the time when I go out, I wouldn't bother getting a new ring. However, I do have a ring that I wore the last time (during the summer) that would work if I can remember to put it on either Smile
  • I love the last option!  I'm still not sure.  Even though I was really swollen with my first, I wore my rings for quite a while - in fact I think my wedding band is a little more forgiving than my e-ring so I wore that until I couldn't and didn't buy another.

This time I have been thinking of buying a huge CZ ring :)

I was a knocked up college senior with Kate.  I was married, though, and it actually WAS fun for me. :)

  • For me I always have to have my wedding rings on. It feels so unnatural if they're not. I hate sending them off for their yearly replating and serial number checks on my diamonds. So as cheesey as it sounds I'll more than likely pick up the fake set. Just so it doesn't feel so weird for longer than a few days.

  • I said yes, not because I care about the stares, but more because my fingers feel naked without my rings (heck, I've had at least one on that finger since 2002).
  • I never even considered it until I started frequeting the bump.  I answered no, and I stopped wearing mine about two months ago because my fingers swell while I'm at work because it's so hot.  I'm young, I look young, teach high school and am a graduate student and honestly I just don't care that much about other people's opinions.  So what if I'm an unwed pregnant woman?  Is that anyone else's business?  (Saying in general...  Not about you ladies Wink)

  • I voted yes because I already had to get a fake ring.  My rings started feeling tight about 2 weeks ago.  I got really nervous and didn't want them to have to cut it off or anything.  I bought a super cheap-o set from Claire's.  I don't care what it looks like.  I'm doing this more for me than for anyone else.  I will take my rings with me to the hospital though.

  • no, i'm married whether I wear a ring or not
  • I didnt happen to me last time but if for some reason i grew out of them this time Id def buy a new one! any reason to buy fun sparkly stuff is a good reason in my book!
  • I won't be buying anything else.  I don't have anything against it, but I wear my ring now because of what it means, not what other people think.  I would feel weird wearing a look-a-like wedding band just so people dont gasp at my belly with no ring.  If I get too big to wear them, I don't really care what others think.  Of coarse, there is that excuse to get a new piece of jewelry :)
  • I don't know if I will or not. I'd want something that looks like my current ring, but then again, maybe this is a good reason to get a fun different ring :)

hmmm I think I have a new thing to start looking at! :)

  • My MIL has a gorgeous heirloom ring amethyst ring from her grandma that is large enough to fit my puffy fingers and she said I can borrow that when my ring no longer fits :) (I LOVE this ring so I am excited to jump at the chance to borrow it!)

Otherwise, I probably would buy a silver band to wear in the meantime because my finger feels naked without a ring. I'm always playing with mine with my thumb and I freak out thinking I lost them when I don't feel a ring there LOL

I agree, I don't wear my wedding ring and engagement ring anyway (the diamonds kept cutting my husband on the hand or when we were sleeping so I took them off.) But I do wear a $15 dollar band we got because the rings were not ready when we did get married.  That band is getting tight and I honestly don't really care to get another one.  I go to college so let people think I am a hot single momma to be I don't care, my husband knows, I know, our friends know, and our family knows why should I care what a stranger thinks?

  • I stopped wearing my wedding rings early on. I had recently lost a ton of weight and had my wedding rings resized. Then hit a depression when things with work went downhill and gained a lot of my weight back. My rings were already tight. After the depression I was working on losing the weight again, but it was much more difficult. I had lost about 20lbs in 6 months when I got my HPT. The bloat was horrible on my hands and my rings were super tight. I haven't been wearing my wedding rings since I was 8 weeks along.

I did switch a ring that I wore on my right hand (that wasn't resized when I lost the weight) and am now wearing it on my left hand. But it's no where close to a wedding set. I don't think many people have noticed.
