3rd Trimester

Anyone already planning baptism????

I am already trying to plan the baptism for mid-july and getting major grief from my Hubby about wanting to have the party in a restaurant instead of at a park or family house!  I priced everything out and it's only about $150 more to do it at a very nice place as opposed to paying for catering, plates, napkins, forks, drinks, etc......

Am I really going overboard???  I just didn't want to have to worry about rain or bugs etc...

 What ru doing????

Re: Anyone already planning baptism????

  • We have a general idea of what we're doing. My niece has her 1st communion in May so we figure we'll do a june baptism (our church does them EVERY saturday afternoon so it makes it super easy!) and we'll put up tents in the backyard, have the food catered and have a good time.

  • I have not started planning yet - but doing it at a nice restaurant is a good idea.  Less work for you in the end in my opinion.

I do know that I would like to do mine in June or July sometime and I plan to just have a BBQ in my back yard - we have plenty of space.

  • Ours will be in late July. We live in Maryland but will go home to Chicago to have it. My dad has a hall for his work and we will use that. We are still deciding if we will use the church we got married in or DH's church in the city...
  • Our church actually allows us to use their gym after the service so that we can have the lunch there. Other members from the church donate the food so that we don't have to worry about it. It's really great. But if I were you I'd go with the park. $150 buys a lot of diapers! Stick out tongue But I'm cheap like that...

  • i just started thinking about this.  I'd love to do it here at our home but the entire family lives 4 hours away and the grandparents wouldnt be able to make the drive so we'll likely do it at the church I grew up at and have the "party" at my parents house (my mom's cool with it).

There is a local restaurant that we my use that would cater everything but I have to explore the costs.

  • DH has already started planning her baptism (he is catholic, I am baptist.)  My grandma is helping him, its funny to watch him get all 'into' it.
  • I think that sounds nice.  We're taking our baptism class tonight. I dont have the date yet, sometime in the summer.  I probably wont think about the party until I have the actual date set

  • I called our church before my DD was born just to find out what needed to happen, etc.  Never hurts to have information.  We're Catholic, and knew we'd have to attend a baptismal prep class, and sometimes those are only offered every few months...depends on the church.

As for the party/celebration afterward, we live in a 2 bedroom condo..we couldn't have all those people back to our house so we had a luncheon in a restaurant. I want to say we had about 30 people?  It worked out great and only cost us between $500-$600, and that included alcohol (consumption based).  For a larger group, you can do a set menu, or have people choose between 2 meals.

We did the same for my DD's 1st bday party..had it in a private room at a restaurant/pizzeria.

  • We have scheduled our LO's baptism for April 3rd (day before Easter). My dad is a catholic deacon and will be performing the baptism. We plan to have a small party after at either our house or my parents house with just finger foods and cake.
  • We did DD's when she was nearly 4 mo. old. It was November so we planned it at DH's mom's banquet hall. (Yes, we still paid, but yes, it was discounted.) I have already just figured we'd do the same thing this time around. DS will be about 4 mo. old in June/July and I also don't want to worry about bugs, heat, ect. Plus I have to plan DD's 2nd b-day for Aug and that will be at our house, if I can keep one summer party out of my house w/ 2 under 2, then I'll def. do that. It's nice to have a party & no mess to deal with. :-)

  • I am not planning a baptism but going to have a party after the baby is born.. kinda of like a meet and greet.. sounds cheesy I know.

I would def. have it at a rest. for that little price difference. I can't imagine trying to clean up the house, get everything ready when I could just go to a rest. for a comparable price. This way you are entertaining but do not have a lot of pressure on yourself. Go you for doing this in advance!

  • We are completely backwards. We know when & where we want the party, but we don't have Godparents picked yet :(  My DH is a police officer so we are having the party at the FOP banquest hall for a really great price. They handle all the decorations/catering/bar...so we just need to pay and show up.

We had Godparents picked out long before even becoming pregnant, but now that baby is almost here we have changed our minds. I no longer speak to the woman who was going to be the Godmother (once I became pregnant she stopped speaking to me). My DH's best friend was supposed to be the Godfather, but after living in our home for 7 months we got to see another side of him and we both agree we do not think he's fit to be a role model to our baby. So now we need to pick a new couple!

  • We're not doing a party or anything other than going to the church.  But, our baby's godfather is currently stationed in Washington so we're going to try and plan it for a weekend he's home visiting before we move ourselves to another state.  The godmother is here one town over so no worries about her being able to be here.
  • We are already planning our daughter's baptism. We live 3,000 miles away from home (military) and my husband only gets leave twice a year. We just found out his leave dates for the summer so we are just now starting to plan our trip and contact the church. We will probably just have a cook-out at my in-laws' house following the ceremony. This will be the first time everyone (besides our parents, who are flying out here after she's born) will meet her, when she'll be about 3 months old.
