I am already trying to plan the baptism for mid-july and getting major grief from my Hubby about wanting to have the party in a restaurant instead of at a park or family house! I priced everything out and it's only about $150 more to do it at a very nice place as opposed to paying for catering, plates, napkins, forks, drinks, etc......
Am I really going overboard??? I just didn't want to have to worry about rain or bugs etc...
What ru doing????

I have not started planning yet - but doing it at a nice restaurant is a good idea. Less work for you in the end in my opinion.
I do know that I would like to do mine in June or July sometime and I plan to just have a BBQ in my back yard - we have plenty of space.
i just started thinking about this. I'd love to do it here at our home but the entire family lives 4 hours away and the grandparents wouldnt be able to make the drive so we'll likely do it at the church I grew up at and have the "party" at my parents house (my mom's cool with it).
There is a local restaurant that we my use that would cater everything but I have to explore the costs.

I think that sounds nice. We're taking our baptism class tonight. I dont have the date yet, sometime in the summer. I probably wont think about the party until I have the actual date set
I called our church before my DD was born just to find out what needed to happen, etc. Never hurts to have information. We're Catholic, and knew we'd have to attend a baptismal prep class, and sometimes those are only offered every few months...depends on the church.
As for the party/celebration afterward, we live in a 2 bedroom condo..we couldn't have all those people back to our house so we had a luncheon in a restaurant. I want to say we had about 30 people? It worked out great and only cost us between $500-$600, and that included alcohol (consumption based). For a larger group, you can do a set menu, or have people choose between 2 meals.
We did the same for my DD's 1st bday party..had it in a private room at a restaurant/pizzeria.
I am not planning a baptism but going to have a party after the baby is born.. kinda of like a meet and greet.. sounds cheesy I know.
I would def. have it at a rest. for that little price difference. I can't imagine trying to clean up the house, get everything ready when I could just go to a rest. for a comparable price. This way you are entertaining but do not have a lot of pressure on yourself. Go you for doing this in advance!
We are completely backwards. We know when & where we want the party, but we don't have Godparents picked yet
My DH is a police officer so we are having the party at the FOP banquest hall for a really great price. They handle all the decorations/catering/bar...so we just need to pay and show up.
We had Godparents picked out long before even becoming pregnant, but now that baby is almost here we have changed our minds. I no longer speak to the woman who was going to be the Godmother (once I became pregnant she stopped speaking to me). My DH's best friend was supposed to be the Godfather, but after living in our home for 7 months we got to see another side of him and we both agree we do not think he's fit to be a role model to our baby. So now we need to pick a new couple!
