So DS and I were sitting on the floor playing, and it looked like he was chewing something. I stuck my finger in and pulled out a little tiny watch-like battery. I was freaking out because I don't know when he would have found it (I was sitting on the floor with him) unless he had had it in his mouth for a while (I had just finished cleaning up from lunch).
So then I got worried that there might be more and he might have swallowed one.
Well, I just talked to DH and he told me that he found one the other day. We got a necklace at the bar on NYE that was mardi gras beads and then it had a blinking charm on it. It came out of the charm.
Well, there was one battery in the necklace, and one battery in DS's mouth. So I think I got them all.
DH said he threw it away, but he must have been mistaken (or he just forgot to do it and he fibbed).
So PSA, be careful of blinking necklaces! Seriously, I almost just had 15 heart attacks.
Re: PSA: just dug a watch battery out of DS's mouth
So glad you got it out before he ate it!!!
I am super anal about anything with those little batteries. I got a singing card for my birthday last month and DH gave it to DS to play with. I freaked out and threw it away ASAP!
I am SO glad he he didn't eat it. I bet your heart stopped!
Thanks for posting this. I would never let DS play with that type of necklace but it would never occur to me that the batteries could fall out. Lesson learned, thank you.
So am I! I didn't even think about that they would be in there (I'll admit, that's pretty stupid of me, but I just really blanked on it).
We even let DS play with it for a little bit because he liked that it blinked. Obviously we never let him play with it alone because of the strangulation hazard, but we really shouldn't have even had it anywhere near where he plays.
If I wasn't 100% sure I had them all and there was any chance he swallowed one we'd be headed to the ER. There was a link awhile back to a blog, the baby had a remote battery in her stomach for awhile, she nearly died, I cannot find the link. It's not something to not be sure about, kwim?
I was just going to say the same thing, so be SURE you have them all. Very sad.
man thats scary. Glad you found it.
DH got me this little mirror that lights up for Christmas. Well you have to pull the plastic tab out to activate it. So I do that. 2 watch battery like batteries coming flying out & scatter on the floor, under the bed. I have hardwood so they rolled once they hit the floor. I was on the floor searching for those little suckers for awhile. Cause I knew that even if it takes me 2 hours to find them it'd take DD 1 second. Darn little buggers. Batteries that is. lol
I'm almost positive that it only had two batteries. It works well with two, but it also looks like you could fit another one in there. But there is a mark just above the second battery that looks like it might be there to signify that there doesnt' need to be another battery.
DH might be calling the bar that we got it at (we know one of the bartenders) to see if they have anymore lying around and can check the number of batteries.
Ugh, now I've gone back to freaking out again.
DS is asleep on my lap right now and seems to be doing okay, at least.
I would, at the very least, call the bar and find out for sure. Otherwise a simple xray can give you peace of mind.
That baby was my coworkers nephew....very sad. The noticed something was wrong for a few days I believe, but 2 sets of x-rays didn't find anything. Apparently the didn't know he had swallowed anything so they only did abdomen x-rays and didn't x-ray his neck and the battery was stuck in his espophagus.
That makes me want to cry. I looked it up and it does say that usually if it passes through your esophagus, everything should be okay. But when it gets stuck, that's the problem.
Like I said in the f/u post, DS definitely didn't swallow one. But I am going to be so much more careful now.
