Did anyone here do pilates all throughout their pregnancy?
I've been doing it for six months now and don't want to stop when we get pg, but the info out there seems to be pretty mixed. My OB said it should be okay since it's not new to me, but to listen to my body, etc etc.
I think it just makes me paranoid given that we had a m/c before we had Marion, but the more success stories I hear, the better I feel.
And if I end up with another c/s, I know pilates will help me recover 100x faster.
Re: NAPR: Pilates & pregnancy
I've seen prenatal pilates DVDs at Target- they just modify the excersizes slightly.
I tried to do a (stardard) session once during early pregnancy and it felt like my abs were being ripped to shreds
I did pilates twice a week until I was 34 weeks along. I did them at the 24 hour fitness a few blocks from work, so I had to walk down there. I started having terrible sciatica pain around 34 weeks and the walk was too much for me.
I let my OB know and she said it was fine to just be careful about the ab work and balancing. I let the instructor know as well and she always gave me alternative moves during the intense ab work.
I was a Pilates & Yoga addict before BFP & kept it up until about 29 weeks or so. I just modified the exercises & got prenatal DVDs. I had to give up almost all exercise though because I had wicked sciatica & PSD & it just hurt to much. I've been a total exercise slacker since Ari was born & need to get back on the ball for real though.
i'd been away from pilates in any serious way for a couple of years when i got preg, but i did a couple of different prenatal DVDs throughout my preg. i laughed at how unchallenging they looked compared to the real thing until i tried them
you'll want to limit the amount of time you spend on your back once you're further along, but i was told that can be accommodated by switching up the order of the exercises or doing various pg modifications. splinting your abs can help if you're developing diastasis as well.
GL!
I'm sure this doesn't mean anything as it's way too early for anything to be happening down there (I'm only 11DPO) but good lord, things felt odd down there in today's class.
I think that might have more to do with what a wuss I am
