How old was baby when you.. dinner out? Mall walk? etc?

Hey ladies - just curious...

How old was your newborn little guy or gal when you first went back out to dinner (sit down, casual/formal restaurant) with your hubby? How old was s/he when you packed up the stroller and went to the mall for some window shopping and exercise? What about a car ride longer than just around town?

My girlfriends and I were discussing this yesterday and I was curious what the norm is after baby is born

Long car ride (1.5 hours) = 2 weeks.

Everything else = 2-3 weeks. Tyler and I were at IHOP & BRU last week (2 wks old) and Wegmans and Costco this week!

Me and the little man are constantly on the go, he seems content in his car seat watching the world go by or even sleeping through our many chores and stops. I basically try to dress my LO well and I dont let germy strangers get to close.

Dinner...3 weeks

Mall...2 weeks

Long car ride...has not happened yet.

We went out for the first time just him and I yesterday. Before yesterday, we always went out with DH or my mom.

I don't think there is a 'norm' really...just when the parents feel most comfortable.

With DS he was about 2 weeks old when I had to take him with me to take DD to preschool, the park, and go to grocery store. He was 6 weeks old when he went on his first road trip that took us about 7 hours.

DH and I have yet to go out together sans DS. We are hoping to get a sitter for this weekend and go out for a little while for some adult time.

We brought DS to the mall at 6 weeks for pics and left immediately no shopping. At about 8 weeks (day before xmas eve) we went as a family and brough DS to meet Santa.

The longest car ride so far was about an hour away and he did fine going but on the way home DH missed the exist and we went to the next one and DS woke up SCREAMING about 10 minutes from home. Probably would have been PERFECTLY timed if DH tooked the right exist. OH well (that was the monday after xmas)

mall- 3 weeks

restraunt: 4 days old

mall: not at all yet, but we started taking him shopping at 5 days old

car rides: eh longest trip was about 30 minutes, he slept the whole time, and was about 1 week old

Keep in mind this is my third baby....my answers with my first were way different.

dinner- less than one week (we ate out at Cracker Barrel which is the older kids fav)

mall- no yet but have gone to Wal-Mart already

long car ride....we don't usually go on long car rides

Wow, those responses are a lot earlier than I would have expected. I'm suprised! I thought more people waited until around 6+ weeks to really take their babies anywhere.

I'm glad to hear that you have ventured out early, though. We are a VERY on-the-go couple so it's nice to know that other folks kept going once their babe arrived

restaurant (lunch) - 2 weeks

mall - not yet, but I don't feel the need to drive 45 min to walk around inside. We went to Target at 3 weeks, but I carried him in the Moby wrap. I took him on a walk outside in the stroller at about 2.5 weeks.

car ride - our birth center is 90 minutes away, so he was 11 hours old when we first started that journey, and have made the round trip drive 2x since then.

We went to dinner on our way home from the hospital, so she was 1 day old. It was late, so it was pretty empty. With our other two, we went out to breakfast the day after coming home.

We never sit inside. We've gone out early with all of our kids, when they are just a few days old.

I haven't taken her out to a restaurant yet not really sure why but we haven't.

The mall, about 3 weeks. She and I go shopping all the time though now. Costco, Ikea, the mall, etc. At least two or three times a week, her and I go out for the afternoon. It keeps me sane.

Long car ride was 3 weeks old. My DH's sister had a baby 8 days after us so we went to see them when she was 3 weeks. They live 5 hours away. She made it 3 and a half hours there and we had to stop at the side of the road and feed her and she made it the entire way home without eating.

We also took a road trip this past weekend to a wedding that was 5 hours away, and even at almost 3 months, she travelled awesome.
