For me personally, I would get both orange and yellow, if I were getting GMDs. For the sole reason that learning how to fold is tricky, and you don't want to deal with folding down and learning how to make it all work with excess fabric when you are new to folding/diapering/not sleeping. JMO. :P

Ditto. We have yellows already but still bought oranges this time. The size difference is pretty significant. And DD was small at birth (7 lbs) but got down to 6 lbs 5 oz so she was super tiny and I can't imagine having used a yellow PF on her then!
PFs are the one diaper that are SO cheap you might as well spend the money. Look for used ones since they stand up to use so well. I will always recommend buying available sizes instead of skipping one for those reasons. You can always resell if you do buy new and make most of your money back.

Tis hard to say. If you end up having a smaller baby, you'd probably want the orange. Larger, maybe you could get by. If the pfs are going to be your primary diaper, I would probably recommend going ahead and getting the orange. The beautiful thing about them is that they can be used as a trifold in a cover even if your LO is in the yellow edge size for folding, and I still occasionally use them as inserts (would more often if I didn't have an excess to choose from).
If you plan on using a lot of other nb diapers, I would probably only get a 1/2 dozen or so orange - if that. If pfs are your primary nb diaper, I'd get at least a dozen, maybe 18. Like pp said - pfs do have a bit more of a learning curve at the beginning, and (frankly) are a bit harder to figure out a fold when the poo is so runny, so while it wouldn't be impossible to skip and go to yellow, it is easier to start with the orange.

If you want, I have 21 infant sized prefolds you can borrow. They would be close to the size of the yellow, just a little skinnier. I'd want them back, but you are free to use them.

I think I love you.
Awww, shucks. Next time we see each other I will bring them. They are currently just sitting in my closet. I sold my nb ones to MrsGreeko or you could use them, too. You might watch if she is selling them soon. Her DD should be out of them soon.
Re: What size GMDs?
ha!

pshaw... my kid will be STTN immediately upon birth. I will have none of this "getting up in the middle of the night" stuff.
;op
Thanks andrea! Off to make a purchase!

Ahhh... the age old question....

hrmmmm... Now I don't know what to do!
Maybe I'll just wait and watch for used. I have time.
You need orange, if for nothing but the supreme cuteness factor.
HOLY COW are they small. And adorable. And squishy.
And you can use them for burp cloths when they no longer fit.
Did I mention cute???
I think I love you.

Keep your eye on Ebay. I got 12 orange edge for $20 ppd. Only a few had been used and they came prepped. I am now looking for yellow edge.
