RP from 2nd tri: unpopular opinions
This was a goodie on 2nd tri today. Basically you just post your unpopular opinions. Here are mine that I posted earlier:
I don't trust the government. I think 9/11 was carefully planned by our government in order to invade Iraq for oil. (I'm sure I'll get a million flames for this but oh well) I agree with abortions, no one should be able to tell someone else what to do with their body. I do agree with the death sentence. I think it's disgusting that ppl that sell drugs can go away to prison for life but ppl that rape children can get out after a couple years. I don't believe in organized religion, I think it's evil and is used as a tool to brainwash ppl. I feel that the world is becoming more and more horrible with each passing day. Racism is alive and well and it sucks. I think that everyone should pay the same amount of taxes (% wise) no matter how much they make. I don't think it's fair that "rich" ppl have to pay out a higher percentage of tax dollars than "poor" ppl I find it hilarious that ppl will believe anything that's on the news. oh and I think that the food that we eat and all of the prescription drugs are the reason for the shorter life span and millions of diseases in America. I think that gays should be allowed civil unions and have the same rights/benefits as heterosexual married couples ...your turn !This discussion has been closed.

I posted it again because I'm bored and a lot of the ladies that I know are on right now. I wanted to see their opinions...
I agree with just about all of your opinions, except the meds one. Lifespan is getting longer, not shorter.
I believe in life on other planets...somewhere out there. It's VERY unlikely that we're the only ones in a universe so vast.
I don't believe in global warming. The Earth goes through cycles on its own, look back through the fossil records. So you can take your smartcar/hybrid and shove it.
We descended from monkeys. Maybe not that black & white, but it's evolution and it's real.
I believe in science. I WILL be choosing my next child's gender. The technology is available, and I'll use it at my discretion
I believe in stem cell research and the potential in the field to cure so many things and save/help so many people.

Me too!! My overly-conservative MIL is having a cow, and I love it.
1. I embrace the "older" methods of child rearing and care including spanking if necessary.
2. I think that the death penalty should be used far more efficiently.
3. I think that if Obama wasn't part African-American he wouldn't receive as much scrutiny. Everyone makes promises during campaigns to get elected and isn't always able to follow through.
4. Racism will never die unfortunately because nobody can truly understand where another race is coming from.
5. While the argument of "just because generations before us did it doesn't make it good" is not applicable all the time.
6. I prefer to use my instincts, my family's knowledge, and learn hands on versus having a book tell me how to raise and care for my child.
Those are the only ones I can think of, but the majority of the time I feel like I'm in the minority when I read threads on here.
I don't believe in God.
I believe that people who are against gay marriage are scared and hateful individuals.
I believe Fox News is the biggest joke in broadcasting.
I believe that the Conservative "Right" are full of hypocrites.
I am against the death penalty, but not for the reasons that most people are: I believe that it is too much of an easy way out. Criminals should rot in prison, not be given a painless and effective way to die. Which leads me to my next opinion:
Assisted suicide should be legal. Millions of people die each year, suffering in agony. If death row inmates can get a humane death, why can't everyone?
I believe that "27 Dresses" is a good movie. ( This might be the most flammable of all my statements.)
I believe we are a hybrid of apes and aliens.
I also believe pot should be legal.
I think the bible is a great story, but just a story.
I believe in abortion, but not for birth control.
I cant stand the thought of 2012 being the end, but it keeps me up at night sometimes

I agree with Laurie. I fed into that conspiracy theory for little while... Then I did more research and realized how absurd that idea is. We certainly didn't do 9/11 to ourselves and a lot of the evidence I've seen to support the conspiracy theory can be disproved by science. But I do believe that we don't need to be over in Iraq and I do think there are ulterior motives as to why we've been there so long.

The judicial system is only punitive if you're poor.

Organized religion is a weak person's way of dealing with things beyond his control.

Healthcare is a right, not a privelege.
Marriage should not have anything to do with the government. Civil Unions should be the recognized form of "marriage" for all people, and "marriages" can be saved for those religious people who choose to have them. Unions should be available to all people.
Adoption should be easier than fertility treatments.
Science > God
8 times out of 10, unpopular people say the things we all wish we had the balls to say.
Being easily offended is a sign of emotional and mental immaturity.
I think it's ridiculous that people are so up in arms that investment bankers are getting good bonuses again this year (and I have an obvious bias because DH is a banker). First, the banks that are paying the bonuses have all paid back the TARP money to the gov't (at a pretty hefty interest rate - so the American public got their money back, plus some). Second, the "averages" they throw out are so skewed because the 10 top executives get $20 million +, which just totally throws the average into some obscene amount like $800K an employee.
I actually heard some commentator on TV this morning say anybody could do an investment banker's job. Right...I'd like just anyone to walk in and do my DH's job. It takes a crap load of talent and long hours (10 day trips to Europe working 20 hours a day, standard 60 hour work weeks, setting an alarm clock at 3 am to get on phone calls with Asia) to do his job and 99% people couldn't hack it (myself included).

op: i'm with you on all but 1 and a half. we certainly used 9/11 as an excuse to invade iraq (who i have yet to be convinced had anything to do with it), but i'm not sure it was planned.
and i think that maybe in the big picture the world may be going to hell in a handbag (that's not the saying, is it?), but because of my ridiculously pollyanna nature, i try to make my immediate surroundings (be they my living room, neighborhood, city, county, state, etc) better and better each day, even if its only picking up litter.
1. i do believe that we're getting lazier and lazier, and i include myself in this accusation.
2. i believe that onstar is a listening device (laugh if you will).
3. i believe that global warming is real, but there is very little we can do to reverse it. however, i don't think that's an excuse to refuse to live responsibly.
4. i believe in civil unions for anyone and everyone. churches can continue to marry people who don't believe in civil unions. that way we won't have to meet one another on the court steps.
5. i believe in choice. whether you want to continue your pregnancy, whether you want to get married, whether you want to host and/or plan your own wedding/wedding shower/baby shower/funeral, etc. go do it.
6. that said, i believe its everyone's civic duty to vote (in every election, especially the little ones), serve jury duty, protest, and know who their state, city and county representatives are.
7. i believe that no one, ever, should see a breeder when wanting a new pet.
8. i believe that the governor of california is a gigantic ass.
I'm feeling contrary tonight, so here's some more:
Pot is safer than alcohol.
Not everyone should have kids.
My body, my decision.
Sex is natural, and it's normal to experience it with whoever you want, in any way you want, as often as you want, and to judge others sexual choices is not only immature, but also belies a certain sense of insecurity and jealousy.
Women who hate models/actresses/singers for their bodies are just as shallow as the people who love them for those things.
Richard Alpert is God...but in a creepy, guyliner-wearing, Egyptian sort of way.

If you do the chores, you make it okay for other people not to.
Sex Offenders should be broken into two camps: those who have consensual relationships with minors who know what they are doing, and those who are rapists. The rapists should be thrown into a pit full of other rapists, naked, until they die. Fvck them.
Just because they are parents doesn't make them good people. The same goes for yours.
Basic hygeine items should be included for people on Food Stamps.
