2nd Trimester

Team green, Dr. predicts a girl!

So we will see! Had my 19 weeks apt today, everything good so far baby's HB still in the 150's and uterus measuring at 19cm. ( Also,I have not had any pregnancy symptoms either) Not sure if she can gather anything from that info but that's what she guesses. It was lighthearted and off the record to clarify....

Any other Dr's (lightheartedly) predicting your baby's sex before the big u/s or for those of you that are on team green?

Oh, and I have gained 10lbs so far!

Re: Team green, Dr. predicts a girl!

  • I dont think it would be wise for a doctor to do that.  I could see some frivolous lawsuits from that sort of thing

  • My doctor predicts girl too, but we are finding out at the u/s.  This baby's heart beat has been around 160bpm.

This! You'd have to be careful who you were "predicting" for since some mother's might hold that against them if they're wrong.

This. Kind of bugs me to hear doctors making wacky predictions based on things like heart rate. It's just an OWT. My baby's heart rate has been really high the whole pregnancy and finally settled into the 150s and he is 100% boy.

  •  I love the picture in your signature :) I think it's fun that my Dr threw in her guess about what we are having...I doesn't bother me at all. Thanks for your post.

  • We were team green for DD, but my old doc said I was going to have a girl because I liked to drink OJ.  I realized that his prediction was totally off the record/casual...

  • It would drive me crazy if my OB tried to predict the baby's gender! That is why we are team green, we want the surprise! Our OB knows us well enough to not even go there! It is one things for random strangers to guess, but it seems pretty strange for your dr. to guess, unless you were asking?

  • There is no correlation b/w gender and heart rate.  If so, DS would be a girl (170's) and DD would be a boy (130's).

  •  That's how it was for us-Off the record and casual. Personal preference I guess...Didn't bother me in the least.

This is absurd.  I have never even heard of anyone successfully sueing for the wrong gender being predicted on ultrasound.  I am pretty sure to sue some harm has to come of it and saying, "My guess is it's a girl" when they are clearly guessing is harmless.

  • At that point our little guy's HB was in the 160s. Clearly the HB think has no validity. I really question a Dr who goes around making predictions like that. Plus, if your Team Green why is your Dr making predictions?

  •  I am with you-Seems extreme. And the PP about the possibility of being disappointed with the gender? Pretty sure I am going to be happy EITHER WAY! Wouldn't everyone?

  • There is actually a grain of truth to the heartrate owt, but it's based on the average heartrate, which can only be really gleaned from recording the heartrate over a long period of time. And boys have a tendency towards one level and girls another. But it's just a tendency, not an exact science.

  •  I don't know that she's "going around" doing this with every patient. She asked at the end of our apt. if she could guess, and we didn't care knowing it was just that-a guess.

  • Our doctor predicted Girl at one of our appointments, and he said that he's right about 50% of the time :)  I thought that was funny.
  •  I did too---It was not a "prediction" like hey you ARE having a girl. Just lighthearted...Sounds like you didn't mind either....

  • We're Team Green but all 3 of the Dr's I've seen recently have all predicted Boy.  My primary OB guessed out of the blue at our last appt and DH joked, so you've got a 50/50 shot - and she said "Yeah pretty much" with a laugh.  I was a little offended at first, but the more I thought about it - and DH gave me some prespective, she was really just having fun.  The 2nd OB I saw, asked first if we wanted to know, which I said we didn't which she said "well I'm going to guess boy, it's fun when you work with pg ladies all day, I'm right 50% of the time".  No harm done.  I'm just tallying it up to see who really "guessed" right.
  • I've measured right on track every appointment. very minimal pregnancy symptoms (minus the rlp and the baby kicking) I've only gained 8 lbs and baby's heart rate has not dropped below 160 yet and he's all boy. There is no doubt about it from the u/s.

Your dr would probably think I'm having a girl too

You must be new to these boards. There are tons of posts of people being VERY disapointed about the gender. Its sad.

What I don't understand to the OP, if you are Team Green, why even allow your doctor to make a prediction? You do know that they have access to LO's goods and the knowledge to tell what it is, right?

My guess would be that if an OB (who is already careful NOT to get sued, considering the amount of lawsuits against OBs) "predicted" it was a girl, it's most likely a girl.

  •  Not new, just don't get on here a lot...that is sad.

Just for fun, sure. But, as I said... the doctor does have access to the information, and if you consider law suits over things as stupid as the sex being determined wrong with OBs.... your best bet is it's a girl if the doctor said that. Not sure how you don't see that. It wasn't your mom guessing, it was your doctor. Either way, there's a LO in there and it's growing and healthy, so that's all that matters.

  •  You said it best-As long as everything is going well and the baby is growing and healthy that's all that matters. Either way, we are and will be thrilled.

  •  I should CLARIFY TOO! I haven't even had my big u/s yet where the sex could be determined. We were talking about that (it's on Monday) and that's were we were causally putting in our guesses! Maybe that was misunderstood earlier...
