Pregnant after a Loss

Little Bear still has a HB :)

f/u from last night...

one small dime-sized light brown discharge at 230 yesterday... ordered to bed... another small dime-sized light brown discharge at 915 this morning... u/s at 11...

still have a HB! the dr first inserted the speculum and looked for any blood... he saw NONE! :) and then he did the transvaginal u/s and saw a gorgeous little heartbeat :) according to his measurement last week, i should've been 6w6d today... i measured 7w0d :) still not quite where i had charted to be, but i'm happy! THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRAYERS!!!!

when do you start get traditional u/s vs the transvaginal u/s? OR when do you start actually HEARING the HB instead of just SEEING the HB?

    Second to your questions-

    1. when do you start get traditional u/s vs the trans-vaginal u/s?
    • It depends on your doctor, the age of the machine and WHY you are getting the u/s but around 10-14 week they switch over to belly cam over the dildo cam.
  • OR when do you start actually HEARING the HB instead of just SEEING the HB?
    • This depends on your baby, your uterus and where they are located in your belly. Normally from 9-13 weeks you should be able to hear on a Doppler device but if the baby is hiding in the very back of your uterus and it tipped at a unusual angle then it might be 14-16 weeks before it starts working right.

  • That is such great news!  Congratulations!!
  • Yay!! That is very good to hear!!

when do you start get traditional u/s vs the transvaginal u/s?

It really depends on what they are looking at.  I had placenta previa with the boys, and got the transvaginal at 20 weeks.  This time around they will be checking my cervix every two weeks with the transvaginal from 10-35 weeks.  As for seeing the baby, they stopped after the first trimester with the twins.

OR when do you start actually HEARING the HB instead of just SEEING the HB?

We heard the HB through the ultrasound machine at 7 weeks.  It was hard, and I had to sit VERY still.  My RE had just gotten a new ultrasound machine, and I really think he just wanted to show off the new stuff.  I never had the doppler with the twins, my doctor always did ultrasounds to check heart rates... so I am no help with the doppler yet.

  • Great news!!! I'm glad LO is still going strong!

I had transvaginal at 7 weeks and abdominal at 10 weeks... I havent had the doppler used on me yet b/c I've had u/s at every appointment lol. I was able to hear the h/b on all the u/s though

  • i measured quite a few days behind from where i charted, too. weird.

so glad baby bear is doing well! i had my first trans ab at the NT scan, at 11 weeks (which, by the way, was too early and had to be repeated). they tried the doppler on me at 9 weeks which was way too early, but at the 13 week appt, it worked!

  • yayy!! I've only had one u/s and that was at almost 8 weeks. I had an abdominal u/s but my m/w put on my script to do it transvaginally if needed. We heard the hb by doppler for the first time at 12w
