If you work at a computer

Is your back hurting you?  I cannot sit comfortably at my desk anymore.  Any suggestions?  Have you found anything that helps?

My back is killing me...

Re: If you work at a computer

  • I've readjusted my chair and added some pillows for back supper. I'm also a shorty and got one of those foot rest things. It keeps your knees level with the rest of body when you sit.

  • Yes, it kills.

Nope, no answer for you. I change positions a lot. I try to walk around the office on a regular basis - once every hour. I do stretches in my cubicle and in the hall way and wherever I find something to help me stretch. I will put my arms on each side of a door frame and gently lean forward. I will stand against a wall just to feel my back supported. I have even squatted against the wall when no one was around - it helped stretch my legs and back. I am conscious of how I hold my shoulders (I tend to tense up a lot).

    Stuff like that.

And, I plan to bring in a little pillow to give me more lumbar support.

  • I worked from my desk at home with a large desktop. I finally broke down yesterday because the back pain was so bad and went and bought a laptop. I am now working from the floor with my laptop and for the first time am not working through major back pain. I see a chiropractor once a week and still nothing has seemed to help. I have a pillow on the floor and am lying down on my side, and switch around to my belly for a little bit by putting a bunch of pillows and blankets underneath me so I can work from the floor on my stomach. I feel so much better! Hope this helps, I feel your pain!
  • My lower back and hips hurt so bad! I just get up and walk around when I can, it helps for a little bit, but not long enouph.

  • At home, I have a low back chair that's was uncomfortable before pg.  I've gotten in the habit of sitting with a straight back and a foot rest.  At job #2, I have a high back chair that's at perfect height for my desk.  No problems yet.

  • I'm lucky enough to work from home, so I typically spend half of the day working from the recliner on my laptop.

  • I sit part of the time in my chair and part of the time on my big exercise ball.  I switch back and forth.  I'm shorter on the ball so I take my laptop off of a riser thing it sits on.

This for me too. The only problem is I work in technical support so I can never predict how long I will be on a phone call - makes it hard to walk around when I need to. Plus LO is so annoyed by the end of the day with being squished all day it is getting more painful to drive home at night. DH suggested I drive his truck to work instead of my car since there is more room - but I am being stubborn since I don't like driving his truck. Looks like I may have to try it soon though.
