'Stupid question' s/o: Makeup in the delivery room

Will you apply makeup after birth (or make a concerted effort to put it on before you go to L&D)?

I'll bring my mineral powder and will likely apply before guests come in.  But I know my face gets red and blotchy when exercising, so I can imagine it will be the same after labor.  I usually don't wear makeup, so I would look funny all dolled up just after having given birth, but don't want to scare people either, lol.

Re: 'Stupid question' s/o: Makeup in the delivery room

  • no. Its a medical procedure so people aren't expecting you to be red carpet ready. But thats just me.

  • Interesting..I will no doubt have my makeup with me since I always have some in my purse.  I don't care how I look while delivering, but I will probably want to cover the circles under my eyes before seeing guests...and unless the birth is pretty easy...that's all I see myself doing!

  • No for me. I don't always wear makeup now so I'm not afraid to be seen without it.

No one is going to see me immediately after I give birth, especially not if I go natural like I want to. I plan to get some rest first - they can wait.

  • I was just talking to my mom about this the other day; she laughed @ me & said I wasn't going to want to bother w/ makeup after birth.  She forgets how self concious I am about my skin which is forever breaking out.  I plan to at least use my mineral foundation to cover that yuckiness before visitors arrive but don't know that I'll do a full make-up application.

  • I will put on my foundation, if it's not already on.  However, that's because I am developing rosacea, and my entire face will look like an apple if I don't.

My regular, workday makeup routine takes me about 3 minutes.  For the hospital, I estimate I can cut that in half, for just the foundation and some colored chapstick (which is recommended, anyway, what with all the breathing).

  • No plans on wearing makeup at any point of the hospital stay as I would hate to look like either a clown or a raccoon in pics.

  • Oh yeah I want to look good damnit!

  • No makeup for me - I could care less what people think I look like after delivery.  If they don't understand...well maybe they shouldn't visit.  :-)

  • I'll probably bring it, but I'm not sure I'll feel like putting it on

  • I'm bringing it to wear home.  My hospital only allows 2 visitors so it will be my parents.  They won't care what I look like.

  • No makeup for me during L&D but I do plan to bring it so I can freshen up afterwards. We won't be accepting visitors for a few hours after the birth so we can bond, etc, so I'll try to have makeup on by the time our families arrive.
  • it hadn't crossed my mind, since i am not a makeup wearer normally. i definitely wouldn't put makeup on to for labor, but maybe i should consider bringing some for after if i will have my picture taken...i can only imagine how assy i will look, and everyone will want to see pictures of the baby right after she's born...hm.

  • I probably won't even take it with the the hospital. I don't wear makeup much these days anyway.

  • I don't wear makeup daily now, so I won't at the hospital either. I plan to have a natural med free birth so I'll probably got to sleep right after. Once I wake up, I will fix my hair in a nice ponytail or bump the ends just to look decent for my guest and their pictures.

  • Personally I am not a makeup person, so I will not be bringing or wearing any unless I already have it on. But I will be bringing a hair straighter. My hair gets messy really fast and I want at least a few decent pictures.

(Okay, sorry about all the posts, my cat jumped on the keyboard and I am not really sure what happened. But I think I finally deleted them all :-) )

  • There is no way I'm applying makeup after I give birth. Even to go home. I think a pair of sunglasses should work just fine for the 10 minute drive to get me home. If I'm feeling particularly fancy, I'll throw on some lip gloss.

    Woo hoo...hot stuff.

  • i don't really wear make up ever... except when my moms like "look pretty for ______ today!" so yeah, i probably won't have make up on, it'll probably be in my purse though as usual.
  • I def won't be wearing make up to deliver - I am going to likely sweat and cry it all off.  Afterwards I would like to wash my face and maybe just apply a moisturizer and at most foundation just to feel "human" again.  I certainly don't plan on doing any kind of full make up routine - but I don't want to look back at photos and see dark circles under my eyes either...
  • I did not have makeup on when I delivered DD because I arrived at the hospital at 9 p.m. after taking shower at home.

I did, however, bring makeup and put it on the next morning.  I was bored and feeling up to it.  (DD was sleeping).  And, I wanted to look good in my pictures!

  • For sure!  I want to look great in those pix that will be forever looked at!
  • I guess I'm in the minority here, but hell yeah I'll be bringing and applying make up.  Thats just me, though.  And as soon as theyll let me, I'll take a shower and dry and straighten my hair, too. Embarrassed

  • I always put on makeup before I leave the house, so I'll probably just go in whatever I already have on. (Usually a bit of foundation and blush, mascara if I feel like it.)

I'll bring some in my bag, but probably won't touch it until we're ready to go home and I want to feel cleaned up and presentable.

We're not expecting hospital visitors except DD and my mom anyway, and I don't really care if I'm "made up" in post-birth pics. They turned out fine the first time, I don't think anybody ever really looks great anyhow, and I know  makeup will be the last thing on my mind!

  • I only wear make-up when I'm going out in the evening...so rarely.  I doubt I'll even have any with me at the hospital, let alone have any desire to put any on.

  • I rarely wear makeup, so I won't be bothering with it in the hospital.  What I am concerned about are my eyebrows.  I'm going to schedule a wax for the day before my c-section so that my eyebrows look presentable.

  • I had worn make up to the labor room but only because I already had it on - I really didn't care at the time.  I was so happy to have it after the delivery.  I had gotten my hair done (just by coincidence) the day I went in to labor so by the time I took my shower and put make up on - it really made me feel human again.  It's not for everyone but for me it really made me feel like I was on the road to claiming my body back.
  • I'm planning on wearing waterproof mascara to the hospital, and will probably put on some foundation before guests start arriving.  I don't want to look like a freak in the pictures.  (I look like a cancer patient if I'm not wearing a little mascara!)

  • I'll definitely be wearing light makeup (depending on what time of day I head to the hospital) when I go in for labor, and bringing make-up for after the delivery when I take my shower.  I am a professional make-up artist and wear a full face of makeup almost every day, so I guess it wasn't really a question for me whether I would or would not! : D

  • Nope..I will have WAY more important things to worriy about (Aka: My NEW daughter!) then to worry about putting on make-up.
  • Definitely not before/during.  But I'll bring my tinted moisturizer with me, along with my lip/cheek pot.  That's it.  My husband is the only one allowed in the hospital with me (pre-labor, delivery, and post-partum), and it's not like he cares.  However, I want one pic with me and LO post-birth...and I don't really feel like looking as bad as I'll probably feel!
  • I am sure I'll bring my make-up bag and will probably freshen up before visitors arrive. As far as during L&D, if it's during the day, I will most likely have it on from putting it on in the morning. But if it's at night, I don't see myself stopping to do a full make-up routine. Maybe some powder and mascara.
