2nd Trimester

Ugh, jury duty tomorrow

I got called for jury duty tomorrow.  Not the most exciting way to pass a Tuesday, but it is my civic dutyWink. I am just dreading having to go to the bathroom every 45 min., which is what I am currently doing because DD is currently using my bladder as a soccer ball.  Hey, maybe they will excuse the obnoxious pregnant lady from jury duty, just this one time!

Re: Ugh, jury duty tomorrow

  • They might not want you for a trial, etc. due to the fact that you will be in the bathroom every other thing.  This is one of those cases where I would milk the pregnancy excuse for everything it's worth to try to get out of it.  Jury duty is so boring and I don't know about you but I would rather be at my regular job and not falling behind on my work.

  • Well who knows, but we take enough breaks in our courtroom that I have yet to really need to go when I'm in there.
  • Good luck. I was supposed to have it in Feb and there was no way I was driving 45+ mins to the court in February in New England. Plus its in a very shady city that I dont want to go, I wish I got picked for a closer court. With my luck it would snow that day and traffic would be 2 hours! I have it in November now, unless we move before then.

  • I am hoping they don't want me.  I was a teacher, until they laid off a good number of us.  My brother who is a lawyer, said that I probably won't make it to a jury because I am what they call a "rehabilitationist".  I guess.  Although i would rather do it now then after DD is born.
  • Having picked several juries myself, my advice is to just be yourself. I sat a woman who as 38 weeks along - she wasn't too happy about it but she was a great juror.  Being as uncomfortable as she was, I wasn't afraid she'd fall asleep, which was more than I could say for most.

Jurors who say the least are the least often picked, but the "I have a convenient excuse not to be on this jury" people have to talk to explain, and thus we get to know them, and thus we often seat them.

Good luck and remember, its important to have fair jurors, pregnant or not.

  • I am kinda curious about being on a jury, I have never been on one before.  I have been called in, but always told to go home.  But, I can't imagine having to sit on my behind from 8-5.  I'm not a sit down type of gal.  And seriously, I have to pee like every 45 minutes, sometimes it is worse.   I can't imagine that a judge would really enjoy having the jury dismissed just so I could go to the bathroom.  And if I don't drink a lot of water, I get leg cramps at night.  It will be an interesting day tomorrow to say the least.  At least I know to bring a good book!
