Infertility

Thank You and Starting IVF

Hi ladies! My husband and I were married in July 2005 and didn't start to try to conceive until April of this year.  After about six months of trying, I contacted my gynecologist to ask her when I should start worrying since I heard that you usually have to try for one year before they'll bother looking at you.  I'm 32, so I'm not in the high risk category, but I'm not a 20-something either.  In any case my doctor told me to just come in and do some tests so that we wouldn't "waste unnecessary time and energy worrying".  Well, we did and discovered that I was fine but that my husband has dismally low counts (800,000), poor morphology (1%) and poor motility (1%).  After consulting with some urologists, more tests, etc., both my gynecologist and his urologists said to go straight to IVF with ICSI.  I took my Lupron shot on the 23rd of December, did my baseline bloodwork today and start the hormones tonight.  The nurse thinks that we'll be doing the retrieval on the 22nd.

So... I just wanted to come on here and say hi and thank you to all of you who are sharing your stories.  I felt very alone when we discovered our fertility issues, and none of my close friends are going through this, so they can't really understand how stressful it is.  Once I was able to figure out all of your acronyms (and there are many!! Smile), I took a lot of comfort in hearing your stories.  So, good luck to all of you and please wish my husband and I luck!

  • Welcome! We were also sent straight to IVF due due severe MFI. MH had count of only 100,000 on the cycle I  actually got pg so success is possible! We have other issues since I am a bit older than you and have an autoimmune disease.

I wish you lots of luck. Don't be afraid to ask if you have questions!
