Vertical c/s anyone?

B/c of the way Baby A is positioned (completely wedged into my pelvis butt first) my OB told me the safest way to get him out will most likely be with a vertical c/s. He did go over the added risks of subsequent pg and of pp bleeding. He also said it would be his last choice and is hoping to not have to do it.

Anyone had a vertical c/s?  What am I in for if we have to go that route?

TIA!

Re: Vertical c/s anyone?

  • I recommend asking this over on the multiples board, if you haven't already.  I know of at least one mom that sometimes posts over there that had a vertical c/s and I'm sure she'd be happy to answer your questions.

  • I had one, b/c I delivered at 24 weeks.  It means you always need a c-section and they will deliver you around 36-37 weeks in the future to avoid you going into labour and contracting against your scar.  You also need to be very careful pp for 6 weeks after babies, to allow the incision to heal nicely.
  • I had a horizontal c/s , but my Abdominal Myomectomy prior to pg was a vertical incision (larger than a typical c/s incision). I was told I always had to have c/s after that. So now, I have an inverted T scar on my uterus. I delivered at 39w, 2d with no sign of going into labor at that point.
  • I have one. I was a scheduled c section due to fibriods, done at 37 weeks. I didn't find it took me any longer to heal than anyone who had a horizontal incision. If I do have another baby, it will mean a section at 36 wks according to my doc, and is one of the factors that puts me in the highrisk group.

  • Some of the girls (I know TriciaJoy for sure) have had vertical C-sections over on the preemie board, you can try there, too! I hope you can avoid it!
