Assuming you didn't suffer from the 4th degree tear or something equally as traumatic, how soon would you say you were able to be up and about out of the house? Like go dinner, go to the store, etc.
I've mentioned before that my high school reunion is going to be 4 days before my due date. I'll probably end up with another c/s which I can plan to have after the reunion BUT I know there's still a possibility that this kid may want to come out on his/her own. Just curious if it was unrealistic for me to think I could still go if I had h/h a week or 2 before the reunion. (The reunion is in town) I still have awhile and anything could happen...I just like to 'plan' things
Re: If you had a vaginal birth...? for ya
why are you planning a c/s if you are able to try for vaginal?
all that aside, i had a 2nd degree tear and it took me a good two to three weeks before I felt relatively normal. It was painful, i was hobbling around and bleeding ew
i had a very easy L&D (1st and 2nd degree tear, nothing terrible). i was discharged from the birthing center 15 hours after dd was born and easily took a shower myself a few hours after her birth. I went to brunch with my mom and sister on our second morning home from the BC.
i was sore and had trouble walking more than a few blocks (new york city), but i felt pretty darn good.
eta: for me, it wouldn't have been terribly unreasonable to go out a week pp for dinner, i mean i couldn't like boogie down or anything, but going out for a few hours wouldn't have been a big deal (...heck i may have gone out to dinner a week pp...)

I think I first felt like leaving the house about a week after D was born, just because I was stir-crazy. But it was only a trip to Target and it wasn't very long. Between still healing (I had a 2nd degree tear, plus 2 tears by my urethra, one that required stitches) and the exhaustion, I personally wasn't up for leaving the house for more than an hour or so.
But my cousin just had her second via c-section (she tried a VBAC but the baby wouldn't cooperate) and within 2 weeks she was making a 3 hour car ride to her hometown. Some people just heal differently - I hope it works out for you!
I only get to try for a vaginal if the baby comes on his or her own. My last one was a c/s and my doc won't induce.
I was alright as long as I wasn't sitting. I remember taking DS to his 4 day after appt and the chairs in the pedi's office were SO HARD!! I think that I was fine about a week after. No pain even sitting. (Never told me degree of tears, but I know I had stiches. I had a 10lber!!)
honestly, I felt pretty good within a couple of days. it was super cold out so we stayed in for a while after DS was born, but I was comfortable moving around the house by the time we got home (and fwiw I did tear and had an episiotomy).
Personally I don't think that is unrealistic...I felt great after my delivery, i was a Grad student at the time, and was discharged in 24 hours, and went to class (sitting for 4 hours) 2 days later. The "other" symptoms of being PP may hit you first, exhaustion, breastfeeding...etc. As long as you take it easy at the reunion, I'd say you'd be fine. Good Luck!
After leaving the hospital with DD I ran in to Target to pick up a few things and made out fine. I was sore but nothing major. If they would have let me and DD leave I felt good enough to go home an hour after I had her. I was up and out of the bed and moving around.
I did get tired quicker though.
I didn't tear very much at all, I only had 3 stitches. DD was little.
We went out to BRU and out to eat the day after we got home from the hospital, so 4 days after. I was still bleeding heavily and it hurt when I peed but it wasn't too bad.
I had DS on a monday and we went to BRU on Friday. I might have went earlier, but Thurs was Thanksgiving and we had had a lot to do.
ETA: I felt great after DS was born. The only thing that was painful is if I scooted across the seat/bed; it pulled my stitches. But so long as I was careful I was in no pain.

Southern, I had two vaginal deliveries. Mine were both induced but easy, painless deliveries. I had two stitches with DD and none with DS. My high school reunion was 3 days after having DS and I opted not to go. I was sore for about 5-7 days, not ridiculously, but just uncomfortable plus I had to wear pads, which I hate and they make me self-conscious. On top of all that, I was tired and just didn't feel like having all the judging eyes on me.
You know, after not seeing most of my classmates for 10 years, they would be realling "looking" at you and I just wasn't up for it. I don't regret my decision at all. My BFF showed everyone pics of my kids on her iPhone and a recent "good" pic of me while she was there.
lol!
I was also in a wedding 2 weeks later, no problems at all.

Personally, that's one of the last places you would've found me a few days after delivering.
Besides the general discomfort, I was obviously exhausted, and doing too much made me bleed heavily. We did make a trip to BRU and the hopsital supply store for pump supplies, but those were short trips. They were enough to get us out of the house, but I didn't need to worry too much about my appearance, or socializing.
If it were me, I'd have someone take pics of your little ones, and I'd stay home and relax.
I came home on a Wednesday and was out of the house walking with DH and DD in the stroller on a Sunday. We went to Walgreens, which was about a half mile from our apartment, I think.
I was a little sore, but it wasn't anything terrible. I was still bleeding quite a bit, so I didn't do anything crazy, and I had to be careful going up stairs.
That following week I was able to go out more for a few walks and to the farmer's market. It felt really good to be out.
ETA: I didn't tear much at all - it was very minimal and I had to have just a couple of stitches.
I didn't have any tearing and was able to move around pretty quickly. I actually got out of the house maybe week post birth to have a post natal massage.
Overall, while my labor was long (30 hours) my delivery was rather easy (15 min.) and I also bounced back surprisingly quickly.
Good luck! I would play the high school reunion by ear. Do you have to pay money beforehand with a reservation? If so is it a lot? When time for the event comes around just see where you are at. I really don't think you are in a position to do a whole lot of planning. Again Good luck!
As soon as we got home from the hospital, I spent an hour cleaning the house (which I don't recommend - I felt fine, but (TMI) my bleeding got heavier) and we took DD to brunch and shopping when she was three days old. I didn't tear at all, so I was very lucky. With the exception of expected soreness, I felt really good pretty much right away.
I am nervous as all heck for this one...there is no way I'll get that lucky twice.
Oh I know what you mean about everyone 'looking' at you. But I'm friends with most of my class on FB so they've seen me looking 'good.' I'm probably nuts for wanting to go but I've always look forward to my high school reunion
Oh and 2 of my good friends are due a month after the reunion so I'll have good pregnant company!
I went to the mall with all 3 kids the day after we got home from the hospital with dd2
but i had no tears or stitches with any of my kids so nothing to deal with except sore muscles really!
I felt better so much faster the second time around. I went out the day after we came home. DD was sick and re-admitted to the hospital @ 8days old for 10 days, so I was all over the place.
We walked to the store (about 15 mins each way) the day we came home. We went out to dinner starting when she was 4 days old.
BUT I was in ridiculous pain for over 2 weeks. It didn't keep me from being out and about though.?
