Too early to set up the nursery?

I am about 23 weeks, and we finally bought the rest of the furniture from IKEA yesterday.  Is it too early to set it all up?  I think I may be crazy for wanting to do it this early!

Re: Too early to set up the nursery?

  • We're finishing setting ours up today.  I wanted to get it all done while I was feeling good and enjoying doing it... Ours is also from Ikea- I couldn't believe how easy the stuff was to put together!

  • Mine was all set up by 20 weeks.  Embarrassed

  • Do it while you can.   You never know when things like bedrest or other complications are going to strike.

Our nursery was finished around 30 weeks.  But we were waiting for furniture to arrive.  Had it arrived sooner, it would have been set up sooner.

  • We put the cribs together last night. It all still needs to be arranged how I want it, but all the furniture is in there and together.

  • I should add that I am glad we got in (mostly) done early because I ended up on bed rest at 20 weeks and my energy was pretty much gone by 28 weeks.  I agree with do it while you can.  :)

  • Not crazy. Ours was set up by 20 weeks, we were only waiting on the bedding sets that MIL was making and some little things on the walls.

  • Ditto all pp. Do it now while you have energy.

  • guess I'm the only paranoid one here. We've got some furniture in the nursery that we already had or that people gave us, but we don't have the cribs yet and haven't dealt with any true decorating. Sometime in the next month we'll get working on it - I don't mind watching my husband while he does the work!

  • I had mine all done by 20 weeks. (Well what I could besides gifts from the shower...) so I had all the furniture (cribs, dresser and changing table) all set up. I wanted to be able to have it done and not have to worry about other people doing it if I was put on bedrest (which is what happened with all my shower gifts after the shower).

The girl at BRU actually said it was a good idea to do it early b/c the wood would be all aired out and not have that smell to it by the time the babies used it :)

  • I think the sooner the better. LOL I totally agree with the "never know when complications will arrive." GL
  • We had cribs up at 21 weeks and the entire room done, strollers, bouncies etc...ready, clothes and linens washed by 25 weeks. I didn't want to take any chances on not being able to participate in the set-up and lo & behold now at 30 wks there is NO WAY I could even do more than one load of laundry in a day, I am so tired and having so many contractions anytime I am standing/walking.

So, get it done as soon as you can, my sister made fun of me for having it done so early, but people that have never carried multiples have no idea what they are talking about, all my singleton friends are still running around and working at this point and I am on bedrest! Stick out tongue

    Have fun!

  • I was all concerned w/ jinxing myself, etc and then got stuck on bedrest starting at 26 weeks so I say set it up! Luckily I had the room painted & furniture delivered before then so thigns were physically in place but the decorating took a lot of time, help from other ppl & the stuff on the walls wasn't done til the twins were about 4 months old!
  • Not crazy!  I was so afraid to "jinx" myself that I never really got the nursery together and still never really finished it the way that I wanted to.  Once the babies come you will not have any time so do it while you can :)
