S/O Alliterative Names

I was thinking about baby names (just for fun!  No plans for #2 yet!) and I really like the name June after my grandma but our last name starts with J and DH does not like the alliteration.  I think it is cute!  What are your thoughts on alliterative names?

Bonus:  Would it be weird if I named a baby Juniper even though I am not even close to a hippie or outdoorsy person?

Re: S/O Alliterative Names

  • I don't like the way it sounds so we didn't consider any first names that start with a B. DH didn't agree with me, but I had to work with his likes/dislikes so he had to work with mine.

Bonus: I don't think it would be weird to use the name, but it's NMS.

  • eeeek! June is my MIL's name. If your going to name future baby June she has to be born in June Wink
  • I actually love the name Juniper - I don't think its sound too hippy or anything!  And I think with the alliteration thing, the way the two names sound together is WAY more important that the letters they start with.

  •   I think it can work. What I dislike more is when they end the same/rhyme. For example our name is three syllables and ends in -ton, and I like the name Madelyn, but it sort of rhymes. I didn't like that. but both of my parents have initials MM and my husband and his brother are both BB, I think their names sound good actually.

Might be annoying if it is more than one letter similar, or same # of syllables. Like June Jones. eww. Also as far as the boy name, I keep pushing Judah, I love that name. Similar to June, not quite as hippy as Juniper.

  • This is why all names that start with a 'D' are OUT for us. Our last name starts with a D and most first name/last name combos with 2 Ds sound really cheesy, esp. boy names.

  • Considering my maiden name started with a K and my first starts with a K....I dig it.  Actually...changing my name was really hard for me because my maiden name sounds like a super hero's real identity name, it was a seriously cool name.

    Think about it this way...

    Peter Parker (Spiderman)

    Matt Murdock  (Daredevil)

    Wally West (The Flash)

    Susan Storm (Invisible Woman)

    Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic)

    Scott Summers (Cyclops)

    Bruce Banner (The Hulk)

    etc.

Juniper isn't my thing...but if someone can get away with naming their child "Starsprinkle" then you can get away with Juniper.

  • I *love* the name June.  Juniper is a "not so much" for me, just not my style.

And I don't think she has to be born in June at all- I have a friend named September who was born in February!   And if we name this baby August he will be born in June.

I think month names are cool.

    H :)

ETA to answer your OG question (ha ha ha) .  Alliterated name I think are ok- depends on the letter.  For us, Frank Frick or Finn Frick or whatever sounds lame.  but with a J, I think it'd be ok- June Johnson, June Jackson, cute.

Also be aware there's a super popular book series for kids called Junie B. Jones so she'd probably get called that!

  • Ha, I had to think about it a second and then I realized DD's first and last name start with S. I guess I have no problem with it!

We can't do S names that start with SH though, because my last name starts with SH and that sounds way too SHSHSHSHSHSHSH. Which pisses me off because my all-time favorite boy name is Shane and DH totally ruined it with his craptastic German last name!

  • Our last name starts with a J and there are some cute boys names that start with J that would go along well, but almost EVERYONE on DH's dad's side (with the exception of DH himself) has a name that starts with J so that was out for us.

our other problem is that our last name ends in "er" and I didn't want rhyming names...so no alexander, christopher, etc.

I like the name June, though...it was my nana's middle name...so I would potentially use it as a middle name down the line....just not a first name for us.

  • August was on  my list for Crash, dh vetoed it with about 10 other names I loved.  I think people should be able to name their kid whatever they want.  People always feel the need to give their opinions, but ultimately it's your choice.
  • I became Anna Andersen when I got married and I love it. At first I was kind of iffy, then I watched how to lose a guy in 10 days (again) and Kate Hudson's character is Andy Andersen and I was sold!

All jokes aside, I like the alliteration. :)

btw, my gma's name was Juyne! Cute name!

  • Our last name begins with a D and I loved the name Delaney - just wasn't sure if I liked it together.  If we have a boy, we will name him Dominic Jeffrey after both of our dads.  So he will be a DD.  But I also like the n/n Nick so maybe it doesn't even matter.  Although I think it might be harder to name a daughter DD in case she has a large chest then that might be mean.

I love June but Juniper isn't my style.

  • We're not fans of the matchy-matchy first/last names.  Which stinks because I really like Madeline but with our last name, it's just too much for me.  (Although many people have told me that for a girl, it'd be okay).
Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.

  • I think June is an adorable name, as long as the baby is born in June, as others have already stated. Juniper, I'm not that fond of. Reminds me of the plant's strong smell and gin, of course.

Chances are her last name won't start with a J forever also ;)

  • I think alliteration is just fine, if it's not too cutesy. I love June (that's my best friend's name, and she wasn't born in June), and I also love Juniper (I do have sort of hippy friends who gave their daughters that as a last name, but it works better as a first or middle name). Along the same lines, I also like Sage.
  • I'm not big on the first and last names starting with the same letter.  I also have the same issue as amyfelice.  Our last name ends in an "son" sound, so we're not going with names like Emmerson, Madison, etc.

AND, because of all these "rules" we've put on ourselves...we still don't have a name!

FWIW, I think Juniper is SUPER cute!

  • We wouldn't use a name I love (Allyson) because our last name ends in son.  So sad :(  However, we ended up with a JJ!  I love the name Jacob but we had struggles naming our son that because of the matching initials and that the name is soo popular.  In the end, we decided just to go for it.  And there is that singer, Jack Johnson, that reminds me of how J's name sounds - so it kind of sounds like a famous person type name to me!

Juniper is NMS either so I've been trying to figure out why I like it so much... you solved the mystery!  Gin!  If I have twins we could name one Juniper and one Olive (another name I pushed for when I was pg with Eloise), then we'd have my favorite signiture cocktail; dirty martini!  Drinks

  • sometimes it works imo but most of the time Im not a fan. Our last name is 3 syll & it seems like if we do an alliterative name its just too much. Doesnt flow well.
  • I love the name Juniper (but I'm kind of crunchy). I tried to convice my DH that our baby was a Sage, but he wasn't buying it. I also loved Aspen, Sierra and Sienna. ;)

But, we ended up choosing a really alliterative name: Brooke Br[one syllable]. It's similar to celebrity Brooke Burke. Some days I wonder if she'll hate it (a two one syllable alliterative name), but I figure it will just be normal to her. I never thought much of my name and how it sounded; it was just my name and that's how it was. If she really hates it, she can always go by her middle name, Lily. But, I truly don't think it will be an issue.

    I love the name June.

If you love it, go for it!
