BF vs FF Clicky Poll

I've been struggling lately with deciding what I'd like to do when the babies are born.  I just wanted to take a poll to see what other MoM's did/are doing.

Re: BF vs FF Clicky Poll

  • I didn't vote because mine aren't here yet.

With my son, I BF'd for 4 months, pumped another 2 and was done.  We also supplemented with formula.  It was not easy for me, but I wanted to at least try.

I think I will do the same with the twins.  I'll see how they take to BFing.  I'll be renting a pump too, and I'll just do what I can.  I'm sure we will be supplementing at least half the feedings with formula, and thats fine. I'm pretty much just playing it by ear.

  • Planning to EBF, but mine aren't here yet so we'll see. I know a lady who EBF triplets successfully for 6 months. She said she just decided that her job would be to make milk for her babies and that's what she did. I'm hoping to do the same thing.

  • I am hoping to do a mix of both.  I would like to try to EBF in the very beginning, but then would like to pump so MH can help with the feedings.  When I go back to work after 12 weeks, I am not sure what will happen.  I would still like to pump in my office but will probably need to supplement with formula, too.  We'll see how this all pans out...

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

  • My plan is to try to pump and then use formula if needed.  My personal choice is to not breastfeed.

  • I ep---excl. pump---so I wasn't sure how to vote. I guess it is "exclusively breastfeeding" but I rarely nurse them. One of my DDs likes to comfort nurse on occassion; otherwise, DH and I feed them my milk from bottles.

  • I pumped for about 7 weeks, then it was formula after that.

  • My goal was to EBF but DS wont nurse for longer than 5 minutes (and even thats a struggle) so I EBF my DD and pump on the other side and than feed him the pumped bottle after his short attempt at nursing.

  • i pump but dont make enough to feed them both so we have to sup with F. i wish i made enough BM to just give them that, but i dont so i do what i have to do to feed my babies. GL whatever you decide.
  • We're doing a combination of BF, FF, and pumping.  We're working on BFing -- DS does pretty well now; DD is still having some latch issues but is improving. So I've mainly been pumping for the both of them up to this point. We also have been giving one bottle of formula at night for the past week, but will probably phase that out when we run out.

  • I BF for 1 month, then EP for 5 more weeks... at 9 weeks I hung it up, it was formula from then on.
  • I tried BFing & pumping in the first 2 weeks & my milk never came in...but I was supplementing w/ formula the whole time anyway b/c I wasn't producing enough. So I chose FFing.
  • I did both for the first month but then my supply was tanking and I knew I had to quit soon anyway to go back on my MS meds so I didn't go to great lengths to increase my supply. (I did try pumping marathons or power pumping or whatever it was called, but that didn't help.)

  • I EBF my DD for 13 months.  I stopped because I got pregnant again.

When I found out they were twins, I informed my DH who supports me with whatever I want to do that I was going to try to BF the twins, but not but the stress on myself that I did with DD.

I felt that if it didn't work, formula was food too.

Thankfully it all worked out and the boys are just over a year old.  They were EBF for the first year of life and now we are weaning off.  They are down to their night time feeding only.

I have to stay that I had lots of problem and issues with my DD and getting BF established.  I think that if the twins were my first I would have stopped ASAP, but they werent and I knew what to do this time.

I give a lot of credit to first time mom's of twins who nurse.

  • I exclusively EP'd, but had to fortify my bm with 1 tsp of Enfamil Enfacare formula per the NICU. I did this until they started on cows milk in July.
