Is there one diaper better than the other or is it really just personal preference?
Also, I haven't changed diapers since I was nannying in college, but do mom's still use powder when you change your baby? (Sorry if that's a dumb question! )
I used Pampers but know many moms that preferred Huggies for boys. Have some of each on hand in the beginning. It will become clear which one works best.
I believe the thought on powder now is a a no-no b/c the babies can inhale it. I have never used it.
Not a mom yet, but I've changed more diapers than most moms. Between being a nanny and working in daycare, I've found that Pampers are way better than Huggies. Better fit, less leakage, better price.
I prefer pampers for DS. But they seem to be bigger IMO (it might just be how they fit DS's chunky legs. So we use Huggies when we first change sizes....then when switch to pampers. I also find much better and more huggies coupons.

honestly it depends on the baby . some parents swear that pampers work better and others say huggies. . . i know that DD leaked in Huggies and did not in pampers. . this baby could be complete opposite. .its something like leaner babies do better with huggies and chubbier babies do better with pampers. . i believe was the consenus on one of the boards.
I prefer pampers over huggies or any other diaper. I found that with my DD the huggies leaked where as the pampers did not. The pampers just fit her better. I have never used powder when I have changed her diaper.
I loved pampers swaddlers in newborns. They are just softer than other diapers and I felt better putting them on ds. That being said, I wasn't willing to continue to pay the price for them. We have used Huggies since ds grew out of newborns and have been really happy with them. Costco carries them and has them in their coupon books and we buy them with that.
I only used pampers when he was little, now I use Huggies or Pampers..whatever is on sale doesn't matter much. I guess I am one of the only ones, but I do use powder, the pure cornstarch kind. I only use a little and its never in the air or anywhere near his face.
Huggies worked best for DS1, but were horrible for DS2 and we used Pampers until we got wise and switched to Luvs and saved a few bucks. Now we're trying to make the transition to all cloth.
I prefered Pampers w/ DS. Huggies leaked for us, I didn't like Luvs b/c of they way they smell, didn't like walmarts Parents Choice brand either. I liked Target diapers when they were circo, but not once they changed to up & up.
I also never used powder, like a PP i heard it's on the 'no' list b/c baby can inhale it.

I prefer pampers over huggies. i recently discovered target's up & ups and they are exactly the same as pampers (IMO) and about $5 cheaper a box. so we have been using them & love them.
I never use baby powder because I dont think its good for babies to breathe it in. (its handy at the beach though to get sand to come off the skin! but I shake it in my hand first)
Pampers all the way! Pampers swaddlers, then pampers cruisers. And once they start sleeping through the night for over 9 hours (around a year), use Pampers Nighttime (or extended....can't remember what they are called). These just came out. Before we used Huggies overnights, but Iike the pampers better.
Never used powder. My son has sensitive skin, so I didn't chance it. I do rec original desitin or butroex butt paste for diaper rash!
Slowly converting from Pampers to Target. The ONLY complaint I have about Target's diapers is that they reek of urine. We only have to use diapers overnight for DS since he has been potty trained for months now. By the time he gets up in the morning, we can smell the urine! But that is temporary and I have bought a bunch for #2 (along with Pampers, Huggies, Luvs and some that were on super duper cheap sale at Toys r us a week ago...the chlorine free kind).
We love Huggies in our house, and had way too many blowouts with Pampers. But, I like the Pampers wipes much better. Our dd is tall and thin, if that helps. The Pampers also smell like chemicals to me.

My preference varies by age/activity level. I used Pampers for the first 6wks, then switched to cloth. My disposable of choice after DD was mobile became Huggies, then Natural Choice (for the eco-friendliness). I also started using Huggies Overnights around 12mos and swear by them.
I've heard people say one works better for boys vs girls, but I don't remember which was which.
I like Pampers wipes better, more clothy, and only use powder in the night time diaper, but didn't start that until around 12mos. Oh, and DD is long and thin.

This exactly. I'm a huge Pampers fan! Huggies also give more kids diaper rash bc of all the scents and crap they put on those diapers. Note I said "more" and not "all" as some people love Huggies and don't have problems.
Re: Moms: Pampers vs. Huggies??
I preferred pampers.

Other - Luvs. Worked great and a good price.

Pampers worked best for us as Huggies leaked.
The thought on the powder is no because there was some study that showed it increased the risk for asthma.

I've used both with DS. Pampers first and I liked them a lot until I tried Huggies. Now I'm never going back. I like Pampers wipes better though!
So we use:
Huggies diapers
Pampers wipes

No powder. Cream when red.
LOVE LOVE LOVE Pampers. 2 years & we've never had a blow out & only leaked when it was time to move up in size (so, maybe 3-4 times in 2 years).
Also, you aren't supposed to use powder at all.

No powder. Just wipes and rash creme if needed.
