after hearing/knowing all the info on the benefit of rear facing? Not trying to offend anyone, just wondering if there are other factors I am not aware of.
IMO-the parents who do put their children FF either are not informed on the matter or choose to ignore. Now why you would ignore something like this---beyond me.
We had to. Mine would get major anxiety turned around. He wouldn't be able to see us and would get sick. There were a few times he was hyperventilating and I would have to drive with one hand either rubbing his head or holding his hand. And that was more dangerous for everyone on the road. We turned him around last week and it was very upsetting to me because I wanted to keep him rf in till 55lbs.
There are lots of reasons...the kid gets sick, the kid has tried it once (like in a grandma's car) and now screams bloody murder if turned around, it is easier to get them in, it is way easier to get them in if you are pregnant...you are six feet tall and even though you drive an SUV, you cannot fit them behind a seat rear facing and you need to move them to one of the sides to make room for an infant seat.
My LO is still RF at 15 months, but I will turn him when the new baby comes at 19 months...
Is it really that hard to fathom that some peoples toddlers literally don't handle RF car travel as well as your kid(s) may? DD screamed, sometimes vomitted, and flipped out every time we'd put her in the car for months. We finally gave up at 17 months - between my stress, DH's stress, and her stress I can't imagine we were in a terribly 'safe' driving situation ourselves.
Not that a give a *** what anyone on here thinks about me or my FF ways, but we switched because I have 2 door car. It is hard as hell getting DS in and out FF, I can only imagine what it would be like RF.
I feel stupid bc I did turn Harrison at 1 yr, but no fear, I am educating myself. ?Thanks for the links to the youtube videos. ?I think pediatricians should be more forthcoming with information on reasons to keep them RF even if it isn't a "law".
To those of you who are upset- this was not to pi** you off and no one is flaming you for FF. Just an informational post is all. It does not work best for everyone. No sweat!
Because I'm stupid, and can't possibly be as good of a mom as some of you perfect moms!!!!!! No, for real.
My DD threw up everytime we were in the car. I cleaned it up every.single.time until one time she started choking on her vomit. But that's okay, judge away. It probably makes you feel better, despite how it makes you look
I have a ds who hates car rides. He'd probably be more happy facing forward, many people swear their kids get better when turned. Oh well, maybe I'm better at blocking out the yelling. He will continue to be ERF and he is very tall at 21 months.
I tend to hear the "but it's 20 lb/1yr" and I just tell people "it's a minimum requirement" and repeat it until they shut up or I just say "do you really want to raise your child based on minimum requirements?" Don't you want to require more?

HAHAHAHAHA katie i totally needed this for the poster i quoted in this thread
want to know why i turned my kid around? too bad, its none of your damn business why i turned my kid around. i dont need to justify my actions as a parent to anyone - my very legal actions, i might add.
if this works for you, then go for it. RF until they are 16 and driving the car themselves. whoopideedoo! i think its awesome if you can ERF, really i do. but dont get all high and mighty because others choose not too. stop acting like we are strapping our kids to the front bumper.
LOL Katie... happily, that's sweet and all, but if you really believe that you haven't read half of the responses to this thread I appreciate your sentiment, though.

::two snaps::
I couldn't handle the screaming anymore. My son wanted to see us. I was getting frazzled from the screaming and besides, he was at the height/age/weight limit to do it.

Eh, don't bother explaining. Some people can't see you from way up there on their horse.

I should post the pictures of when we took Brock for a ride in a jeep....oh he loved it...and i bet anything he would love taking a ride on the front bumper. LOL he's crazy like that

People said that those of us who have turned our kids are stupid, that we either don't understand the safety issues or we just don't care. Really, how is that not flaming?
Joseph turned long before 2yo. While the overall height issue might be the same for RF as FF, they aren't supposed to be RF after their heads are even with the top of the shell. Joseph might have been under the 36 inches, but he is mostly torso, so his head was too tall. If you are too tall for the chair's RF guidelines, RF is no longer safer.

Oh, and to add .... I also know the benefits of BF and stopped that at 5 weeks. Started solids at 4 months. He sleeps with 938410497651049785 blankets/toys in his cribs AND .... he has a leash.
((Yawn)) I am over this conversation. I feel like I was over it about 5 months ago but now apparently we have a whole new crop of girls fresh from 6-12 who wish to rehash this subject again.
FWIW-- Carter is still rear facing and will be until his 2nd birthday.
Re: Im curious...why would you turn your LO forward facing
Because if it was really not safe, there'd be a law against it!!!!!
LOL. That's my personal favorite answer.

because its more fun that way
bwhahahah
ETA: I turned brock at a year because really...driving and running errands really WAS more fun that way. He was as happy as a clam

I promise not to be a stupid momma anymore. ?:)
Another factor is size and strength. My kid (still RF) is 36 inches at 15 months. We will likely get to the max height in his marathon RF soon.

Because I am her parent and I make the decisions.
Good point.

Non-moving siggies are a *minimum* requirement. Didn't you know? Sheesh
