Was alcohol served at your baby shower?

If so, what was served? Wine? Cocktails? I'm having a Sunday afternoon baby shower and we're serving lunch. My mom was planning to have red and white wine there, but I wasn't sure what the norm was.

Re: Was alcohol served at your baby shower?

  • There will be at mine...it's a champagne punch. But there will also be water, tea, and regular punch for the non-drinkers - like me!

  • I didn't have any at mine, but my friend has Sangria at hers.
  • Wine and cocktails will be served at my shower. Every baby shower I've been to had wine or a cocktail of some kind.
  • Yes at both. One was a brunch so they had mimosa's, the other was in the afternoon and they served wine.

  • At one of my showers my sister made a punch & put a bottle of champagne next to it for anyone that wanted to add alcohol to their drink.  It was a lunch shower.

Another one of my showers was a co-ed shower which was during college football & the theme was football party/baby shower.  The hostess served beer & wine.

  • Yes, but mine was at my favorite restaurant ever, which is a brew pub. There seemed to be a mix... some people drank (beer and wine) and some people didn't. My BFF knows I'm not a frilly person and that having it at the pub, where everyone really does know my name, was appropriate.

  • Heck yes!  At my shower for my DD, there was champagne and mimosas.

    I think white wine too.

  • Alcohol wasn't served at mine, only because DH's family is a little questionable when they're all together as it is so we decided not to throw alcohol into the mix, but I think its perfectly normal to have something.  If its an earlier lunch you could serve mimosa's or wine too.  I think both are great, just as long as the people you're serving to can handle them. ;)

  • We had a really nice champagne punch fountain at our shower.

  • I haven't had my shower yet, but I already know there are plans to serve wine and some "specialty cocktails".  My cousin's girlfriend love to whip stuff like that up and she promised to make some mocktail versions for me - Yay!

  • Heck yes we are having alcohol!  Why should everyone else have to suffer!

  • Apparently we are. I said alcohol free baby shower. I am not a fan of feeling responsible for how other people get home. I am not sure what they are serving. I just hope they don't spike the punch or anything.

  • There wasn't at mine but I have been to a few that had some sort of cocktail or spiked drink.
  • I didn't have alcohol at my shower.. but my cousin did at hers.. they had pitchers of white wine w/ fruit in it... I wasn't prego at the time and tried it and it was yummy and refreshing!!
  • My first shower was held at a pub (and restaurant) in the backroom...so if guests wanted a drink they could go get one. However, only non-alcoholic punch was provided. Any other drinks could be purchased at the bar...which helped out the pub because the room was free and my hostess provided snacks.
  • My shower is at a restaurant and there will be an open bar.

  • We had a champagne brunch

  • We had all kinds of alcohol on hand right down to the jello shots...  But, my parents always have that kind of stuff on hand - no surprise that my shower incorporated my family's love for the spirited beverage.

  • I've heard of it, but I have never had a baby shower that served alcohol.  My bridal showers did, but not my baby showers.
  • No but only because it was held in a church.
  • I'm having two showers - I'm thinking there will be wine at the first one (a bunch of my friends) and then there's the family shower, and I don't think there will be any alcohol at that one.

  • I can't imagine having or attending a shower without alcohol!  Mine was no different.

  • Yes. Punch - there was one spiked, one unspiked.

  • Yes - Wine and Beer but ours was co-ed.
  • My shower is more of a "party" and guys have been invited. My parents ar  throwing the shower in a room at a resturant. Full bar is going to be avaliable, I think they are paying for a beer and a wine selection.

Same for me.  I can't imagine my friends and family having it any other way! :)

  • My shower will be at a restaurant, so there will be alcohol. I think it's nice to offer something to guests. Wine is fine though, you don't have to offer something else.

  • I had 3. At the 2 family ones there was no alcohol. At my friends one there was bloodys and mimosas and vodka. She also had momosas (with sparkling grape juice for me and another preg lady)
  • Yes, champagne and mimosas. We had a brunch. My sister also had some sparkling cider and mommy-mosas! I think it's pretty common to offer some alcohol. It just depends on who is throwing the shower.
  • My shower is next month and is co ed. There is going to be booze there. I suggest an apple pie everclear drink i saw posted on here to my bestfriend to make, aside from the other drinks there.

  • Yes, it's going to be a brunch with a bloody mary bar, champagne cocktail bar (mimosas, belinis, etc), and the regular beer/wine. It's also coed, and there won't be any lame games.

I went to a baby shower a few months ago that was absolutely excruciating, even though I couldn't drink I know the shower would have been at least bearable if everyone else could have.

  • Wow, I am surprised by the responses--I have never, ever been to a shower (either a wedding shower or a baby shower) where alcohol was served!
  • My shower was also a luncheon like yours, and we served sangria (red not white), along with sweet tea, soda, water and juice. I think it's just personal preference ... and perhaps time of day. If we had planned a brunch, I probably would have served mimosas instead of sangria. My friends and family like drinking!
  • Absolutely!  Mine was at a restaurant though so people just ordered whatever they wanted.  Some got wine and other mixed drinks.
  • no alcohol at mine

  • Nope. I guess there's nothing wrong with having alcohol at the shower, but it seems kind of sad to serve something that the guest of honor can't drink, lol.

I also think it depends on who is hosting your shower. If it were a friend, I would assume they would serve alcohol. However, my mom is hosting my shower and she doesn't drink (religious reasons), so I know she's not going to serve it. I've actually never been to a shower where there was alcohol.
