Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Weight post from 2nd tri girl :)

Hey Ladies,

I don't want to bother you, I know everyone is different, but I am curious as to how much weight on average you ladies have lost so far? I know this is a very touchy subject but my intentions are good. I have my wedding about 4 months post-baby and I am just looking to see what others have lost at this point. Sorry to offend if I have, I am just wondering. Thanks!!!

  • I gained about 32 lbs and lost all but 4 lbs within 2-3 weeks after delivering. I am still battling that last 4 though :-p

  • I gained 63 pounds and have lost all of it at this point---looking to lose another 20 lbs.
  • 7 lbs to go. I EBF/EP and haven't changed eating habits or been working out. Even if I lose all the weight I'm still not sure I'll fit in my pre pg pants though. And congrats!
  • I have lost 31 of the 32lbs I gained.

  • I gained 15 lbs (I was overweight before and told not to gain too much weight) and have lost it all and then some.
  • i gained 16. i lost it all by 6 weeks pp but my stomach looked saggy. i got the 30 day shred (dvd workout w/ jillian michaels) and it worked wonders and tightened me right up. i'd definitely recommend it.
  • Gained about 30 and lost it all within 2 weeks.  My old clothes still don't fit quite the same, though.
  • I gained 33 pounds and don't regret it.  About 2 months PP I could fit into my old jeans with a rubberband.  Now I'm back in them buttoned and haven't done anything to lose the weight other than go back to my old eating habits.

I am probably going to gain around 60. I unfortunately gain weight so quickly and easily, I am up 30 already! (to add to this I usually have a tendency to lose it just as quick...but I am still afraid 4 months is not going to be long enough!!!)

Thanks so far for all the responses, keep em coming :)

  • It will depend on how much weight you gain, what weight you started at, etc. But I think you already know that.

If you are just curious, I am 5' 7" and:

    PreP weight : 165

    Delivery weight: 182

    Weight as of today: 148

I BF until about a week ago, not exclusively, though, and did WW starting at 7 weeks PP. Still doing WW as my goal weight is 140.

  • I gained 50 and lost most of it in one month and all of it by 3 months pp, now I am 4 pounds under my pre pregnancy weight, but that is because I started working out again recently. I attribute it to the fact that a ton of my weight was water weight and the rest came off because of BFing.

However, my body isn't the same propotions as pre pregnancy so some of my clothes don't fit right. Jeans are particularly tough and my boobs are huge so shirts are tight through the shoulders and back. Anything that is tight around the lower abdomen just doesnt look the same! So my advice is to go with an empire waist dress that is big boob friendly! :)

  • I gained 44 and lost 28 lbs in the first two weeks after delivery. Then I lost 7 more, and then I stopped BFing and the holidays occurred. :( I gained 3 lbs back.

I think 4 months is a fair amount of time, if you eat right and exercise. You can do it!

  • I gained 34 lbs and lost all of it within 3 weeks of delivering, however I developed a secondary infection and was on pain meds and not eating much.

I am hoping it is enough! I plan on ebf and I regularly am a healthy eater, but with this pregnancy I have been craving such unhealthy foods that I gave up before. I am hoping to return to my normal eating habits after he is born and hope that will help. Thank you ladies so much for your responses! All of your babies are adorable :)

  • I gained 50 and I'm back to my pre-preg weight

  • I gained 38 lbs and had lost it all by 4 mo PP. I did not exercise or even eat particulary well to loss it, but I do BF. My body is different now though and clothes do not fit the same. I wear a size bigger now in most things.

  • I gained 70, lost 50, gained back 10.

I am not able to cut down my food intake, because then my milk supply drops off to almost nothing.

  • I gained 40, have lost 25 at 3 mos. I BF the first 2 months and have watched what I ate since 1 month after birth, I am now adding working out to to the mix but have to be cautious due to back problems so the last 15 will be a struggle... I would also like to lose another 10+ after that since I was heavy when I got pregnant.

  • Gained 12 pounds and lost all of them the day I gave birth. Lost 18 more since then. Not breastfeeding either, just lack of time to eat and lack of sleep I guess...

  • I gained 32 lbs and lost it all by my 6 week app.  5 mos later I am 8 lbs below pre preg weight.  I haven't dieted, worked out or done anything to lose weight.  It was all swelling and I also don't have free time to snack anymore.  GL!
  • Well I guess I'm the one fatty of the group! I have 15 lbs to lose. I don't know my total weight gain because at the end I was swollen beyond all recognition (severe pre-e). I think the total ended up being around 50 lbs. A lot of that was water weight. I'm still at the weight I was at about 6 week pp. I haven't been regularly exercising, though.

  • I gained 39 lbs and lost most of it within 5 weeks of delivering. I am now 3lbs away from PP weight.  I am still BF and have not changed any food habits. If you are not noticing enough weight loss shortly after delivery try starting a workout routine.
  • I gained 27 lbs and lost all and an additional 5 lbs within a week after delivery. Mind you all my weight was in my belly. The fast weight loss left my tummy quite ugly...
  • I'm hanging on to about five pounds now.  I gained around 37.

  • Gained 48 lbs. and have lost 40 so far. Working on the last 8 and beyond.
  • I gained 57lbs, and I only have 4 left to lose.  I'm EBF.

I gained 20lbs and had lost 21lbs by 2wks pp.  I was EBF.
  • I gained 48 total. Lost all of it in the second week. Was smaller than my pre-pregnancy weight by 2 months. Still ate just as much and no exercise. I owe it all to the breastfeeding!! Good luck!
  • I've lost all the weight plus an extra pound!  I was down to pp weight around 2 mos.

  • I've lost all 35ish pounds I gained, but things have definitely shifted around some.  I've heard great things about Spanks, must get some soon.

  • I gained 35, lost 20 immediately (w/in 2 weeks), another 10 over the next 6 weeks, and the last 5 took about 2 more months.

FWIW: if you are BFing it comes off very quickly at first, but the last 5-10 can hang on until you wean in a lot of cases.

Um, yeah. The Bump be too crazy for pics of my kid.
  • With DS#1 I gained around 50 lbs and never lost the last 23 before I got pregnant again with DS#2 seven months pp.  I only gained 22 lbs with him and I am already down all 22 plus 10 lbs at 10w pp.  Defintely due to breastfeeding (I bf DS#1 but had major supply issues starting at 6w) since I only just started working out plus staying very active during the second pg and gaining a smaller amount of weight.
  • I gained 47lbs with my pregnancy (most of it in 3rd tri).  I can't emphasize staying as active as you can (or allowed) and eating healthy (and not pigging out), I wish I did.

I lost 25lbs the first week (water weight).  I had 22lbs to lose.

I got on birth control (6 weeks post partum) and due to it and staying at home (not being as active as if I were at work), I gained back 15lbs.  I now have 38lbs to lose.

The key is to exercising (within reason) and eating healthy.  Those first 4-6 weeks you won't be able to do much, so try to keep it at bay during your pregnancy if you can.

Some ladies bounced right back into their pre-pregnancy clothes while others (like me) are finding it challenging.

  • I gained 40 lbs and was back in my pre-pregnancy clothes within 2 months.  Didn't do any exercising or dieting, and I EBF.  It was a total shock to me that I didn't have to work at it, because I've had weight problems in the past.
  • I gained 40, lost 32. Only EBF and occasional elliptical, I don't really watch what I eat either...

with DS 1, it took 6 months.

  • My own wedding is in April, so I know how it feels to see the scale go up during pregnancy.

    I gained 45, and these last 7 pounds are a b!tch.

  • I gained 20 lbs and lost it all in a couple weeks, plus a little bit more when I was breastfeeding. But I'm way mushier in the middle. Are you worried about your dress? The boobs would be the tough thing to fit, IMO.

  • Oh man! Now I feel bad about myself.  I thought I was doing so well.

I gained 38 pounds and I have lost 23 so far.  I still have to wear maternity pants.  I'm dieting and doing cardio 3 times a week.  Sigh...15 pounds to go.
