2nd Trimester

It's hard to be PG w/ a toddler!

DS has given up sleeping.  He's kicked the habit.  Apparently it's really cool to get up at all hours of the night again.  Something he hasn't done since he was about 10 weeks old.

Mama's tired.

  • You really should thank him. He's preparing you for when baby sister gets here and you really get zero sleep!

  • DS has started waking in the middle of the night, but generally puts himself back to sleep.... but now instead of sleeping until 7:3-8 he is up between 6-6:30 again..... UGH! I think they are "training" us all over again

  • DD didn't sleep through the night completely until she was at least 7 months old. I have no idea how I'm going to do it this time since I won't be able to nap when the baby naps!

  • I hear ya!!! My son only did this for about a week and this was a few weeks ago, but it was so exhausting to then have to go about a normal day!! It's just plain hard being pregnant regardless without having to chase around a toddler, and or be up all night with them. My advice with the night time thing is to just keep putting him back down....don't talk to him, just put him in cover him up and kiss him goodnight. Do this and eventually he will see that its not time to get up. This was from Heathly Sleep Habits, Happy Child. Its the chapter that is called something like Jack in The Box....HTH.

I never napped while Carter napped!  I don't nap!  It's really amazing how well you can function on so little sleep.  Amazing. ;)

  • Yup. While her naps are still somewhat existent, she's taken to waking at 5am most mornings. And I have an awful cold so I need those 2 extra hours she's "stolen" from me to heal, darn it!!! lol

That's exactly what we're doing.  I go check on him, make sure he's okay (dry, etc.) and then hug him and kiss him and lay him back down.  I close his door and wait for him to go back to sleep.

He's been getting up like 2 or 3 times and I feel like he wakes up again once I FINALLY fall back asleep!  Sigh.

While I was on maternity leave I would just let her nap on me and that would lead to me napping. I don't nap now when DD naps, though somedays I really want to, but I know she would wake up as soon as I fell asleep!

  • Yep, DS has kicked the habbit as well. It's the thing to do when you have a pregnant mommy. They KNOW.

  • I think they have a 6th sense that tells them that mommy is tired and to make her life miserable.  DD didn't STTN until she was almost a year and a half.  Within the past month, she's started waking up in the middle of the night.  Sometimes it's only once, but more often it's 2-3 times.  All she wants is for me to cover her back up with her blanket.  The problem is that it will take me almost an hour to fall back to sleep.

I just hope she's over this phase by the time baby boy arrives.  Getting up with a newborn is hard enough but I can't imagine having to get up with a newborn and a toddler!

  • yes it is!!!  but this posts reminds me it could be so much worse, at least ds sleeps really well at lets me sleep in till 8.
  • DS didnt STTN--well its not constant now but most nights it is--until 11 months. So I was throwing up and sick while rocking, nursing, and rubbing his back to get him back to sleep. It was bad. I hope he continues this since I need the rest. PLus my Dh works away for 3 wks so I have no help for 21 days straight

  • I'm so glad my almost 2 year old has always sleep for 10-13 hours a night and still is now. I know I'm lucky that he sleeps so much and still takes a 3 hour nap. But I still get burnt out when he's awake. He has so much energy and he just loves to try and jump or step on me. I hope he learns to sit still by the time the new baby is here!

  • Amen sister!  At about 1.5 yrs. DS really struggled w/ his molars coming in and made his already crappy sleep habits worse.  It's hard when they're so high energy through the day and up and down at night.  I haul my pregnant a** down the hall and think, "how am I going to do this with two of them??!"
  • Yikes.  One of the questions my OB asked at my last appt was about DD's sleep (I looked run down after sitting in the exam room waiting 20min w/ her).  He laughed when I said she's in her crib 7:30-7 without waking.  Hopefully he'll decide to sleep again soon!  Maybe he's teething?
  • I feel your pain Mrs.Jenni!! DS has been doing the exact same thing. For the past week or so he's been waking up 6 or 7 times a night, is getting up about hour earlier than usual in the morning, and doesn't take a nap half the time. I am exhausted!!

I know you had a big baby, but Woah!  Giving birth to a toddler...THAT would hurt! Ha, ha!

  • I agree girls... I think it's molars!  He has his top 2, but maybe the bottom 2 are starting to come through.  Usually when he teethes though, its accompanied by a fever and lots of poop!  But not this time.  I have no clue.

Motherhood: it's a big guessing game.

  • I could have written this post.  DD has been up too and she ALWAYS slept :(  It is her molars - one just popped through but I have a feeling all 4 are coming!  She usually had red swollen gums but nothing this time other than being cranky and up at night.

    Motrin :)

I'm not ready to practice for the next yet either!

LOL!  I'm so much bigger this time, I feel like I'm pregnant with a toddler... and I feel your pain.  We were up from 3:45 til 5 yesterday... it's actually been 5ish most days and not the middle of the night, at least!

  • I'd also like to add that it is hard to be PG with a teething baby. DD's teeth are cutting through so I've been in no sleep, crabby baby hell. I'm sure DD will be a toddler by the time we get another BFP, so I guess I won't be able to relax for a while.
