3rd Trimester

34 weeks and already gained 60 lbs!!

This is my first post and its mostly a vent!!! I'm 22 years old and having my first child I'm 34 weeks and 4 days and have already gained 60 lbs! Pre-pregnancy i was 123 @ 5'7" i have always been thin except for young childhood pre-pubescent years.... So for me to have put on this amount of weight is absolutely ridiculous! I feel so completely miserable/useless/depressed! I truly do not eat that bad and i do daily walks and just cant seem to keep the weight from pouring on! Granted i am having a very large baby he was 5.6lbs @ 32 weeks and measures 3 weeks large when they measure my bellly but its still so extremely frustrating family and friends tell me i look beautiful but i feel as if they arfe only doing it because they have to! I cry almost every day because of this issue and i am having nervous breakdowns i just dont know how to handle this! Im absolutely terrified at what my body is going to look like after this child and i mean i have horrible stretch marks and now saggy boobs i juast feel absolutely disgusting.... If anyone else feels this way please comment back and let me know how you're feeling so i dont feel so alone! Thanks!

  • All I can say is that I know at least 3 women (all colleagues) who were teeny tiny before pregnancy, gained between 75-100 pounds each, and now look FABULOUS after having had their babies years ago. Literally, all three are size 0-2 now.

It may take a while, but if your body is normally tiny I do believe you will get it back. Don't be too hard on yourself, everyone's body reacts differently to pregnancy.

  • Don't beat yourself up -- you are carrying a baby! You'll have time to shed the extra pounds, but in the meantime, try not to stress.

Also, a co-worker of mine was super tiny pre-preg and gained 100 pounds during pregnancy. She is back to her size 2.

  • I have gained 45 lbs already, and I started off small as well.  My whole life I've tried to stay in shape, I ran marathons, I'm a personal trainer and I love working out. Now, I can hardly get up a flight of stairs without feeling like I just ran a full marathon! lol. I know exactly how you feel, I've never had a large weight gain, but just know that you will get back into your pre preggers body!  I hate when I have to step on the scale at the doctors, I keep thinking they are going to tell me that I'm turning into some sort of whale creature...lol but they dont! Cheer up, and dont worry...this will all be worth it in the end! :)
  • I have a friend who gained 60 lbs when pregnant with her first and she got back into shape so fast after he was born.  She still looks great to this day.  Just because you gain a lot while pregnant doesn't mean you'll be big after giving birth!  You can always loose the weight later so don't beat yourself up over it.
  • I was 21 when I had dd and I was very small, I wore a size 1 jeans. I also gained 60+ pounds, and know what? It all fell off within 6 months. Dont be so hard on yourself! Sounds like your doing everything right, eating and walking. Theres nothing more that you can do right now, but you dont have that much longer and then you can get right back on track. Wish I could give you a big hug cuz I know I felt the same way. You are not alone, and start listening to those people telling you that you are beautiful, its true!
  • The two hottest moms I know gained 70 and 80 pounds each!  They look fabulous now.  It'll be OK - your body is doing what it needs to do =)

  • I gained nearly 70 lbs with DS1 when I was 24 y.o. My weight pre-pregnancy was about 120 (maybe less) and I'm 5'9". I was miserable and horrified about what would happen to my body, too. But I literally did nothing to lose the weight, and it just kind of fell off in about 3 months. I do believe that my age had a lot to do with how I bounced back so easily. You have that same advantage.

I didn't have my second child until I was 34 y.o., and only gained 40lbs, but never lost the last 15 even though I was killing myself dieting and working with a trainer. A decade makes a big difference...

As for the stretch marks, I got a sh!t ton with that pregnancy. But honestly it's not the end of the world. And quite honestly, I may go the cosmetic surgery route after this final baby to "fix" some things. It may not be the solution for you, or others, but it is an option if you really feel like you're that unhappy with your appearance.

  • i gained over 40lbs with my first child....and am approaching that number fast and i still have 10 weeks to go with my second....

i don't look at numbers and we don't discuss them....

just know that with nursing, eating right, and staying active (walking with baby, some work out dvds, and the gym if you feel like it) will melt it off right away- i was 10lbs away from my goal weight within a month and a half...the last 10 was hard to get off, but i was UNDER where i started by 6lbs at my son's first birthday-

  • I'm 5'9" 135 pre-preg & gained 80 with my 1st baby. I had my horrible moments but really embraced the fact that I was baking a baby. I have gained 50 this time so far. I was able to lose the weight thanks to breastfeeding, good genes & pilates. When your baby is here it'll all be worth it. My mom had to take me for some retail therapy (cuz my big arse wasn't fitting anything) and I felt alot better. Just hang in there mamacita!
  • Calm down honey! You will bounce right back, my friend was the same way, she gained 80 lbs total but it came right off after she had the baby and she looks great although she does have stretch marks but that's ok! It'll all be worth it and stop stressing, you will be fine!! :)
  • I went from 100 lbs to 170 lbs while pg with DS and I lost it all. I literally lost 40 in about 2 weeks- so much water retention. I was miserable and looked awful at the end (all my hospital pics are awful b/c they stuffed me full of MORE fluids during induction). The last 20 lbs. I had to really work for but it came off. Just let your body do what it needs to for your LO- all that matters is that sweet baby is healthy!!
